Hello everyone!
Well, my scoot is returning piece by piece from my friend doing the media blast.
He recommended rather than braise the holes (size of silver dollars) in the crease of the glove box cowl, that I use a medium called "Alumilead" sp?
Has anyone used this, and what are your thoughts?

Thanks.

Dont use that or anything other than welding to fix those holes. Post a picture of what the holes look like. A silver dollar is a big hole for filler.

hole filler
That specific cowl is being media blasted this week. I'll post pic's the following week when it gets back.
I started to braise it with the bronze pencils, but the guy said paint won't stick to the bronze well. I thought like you did too, so big, maybe I should fiberglass, (I used to build surfboards and am pretty good with the stuff).
Then some guys think that's a shite idea...

Keep the ideas coming!
Ride safe everyone.

Brazing is the wrong road to go down as well. It needs to be welded for best long term results. Depending on how bad the holes are, you can either weld the holes, add metal or maybe you can find a better used part without holes.

Find some sheet metal of a similar thickness and cut to the approximate size of the hole. Weld that into place. That makes for a much smaller amount of weld.

as an amateur, I thought I could totally braise and then grind smooth.
Not a good idea, huh?

At least you guys got my back.

So what would be the right way to fill a 1/4-inch hole in my legshield.? Previous owner had drilled a hole in it to mount a mirror ...

That size hole you can mig weld. I believe Davids holes are a bit bigger(silver dollar size) which would require adding some metal.

The problem with braising is it is like soldering:you need to heat up the area as well as the different metal which will cause warpage. The Mig welder is a fast and direct heat that will cause less distortion. You also want to always try to fix metal with the same type metal if you can.Post some pics and I will see if I can lend a hand to help you fix it. On one of my bikes I had a similar issue after sandblasting that required fabrication in the same area I believe you are speaking of.
