I have been curious about the evap canister through a few threads here.
Having disconnected them on various modern BMW bikes, today I started investigating my 2008 GTS.

I have always noticed that the tube that goes to the canister came up to the filler neck, but was just tucked under the body and not connected to anything. Hmm. Today I removed the black plastic around the filler neck, and sure enough it was supposed to go to the high overflow point on the filler neck and was NOT connected.

Do only California models ship with it connected or was mine disconnected at the dealer during dealer prep? I highly doubt it just fell off.

Any thoughts?

My guess is that your dealer did not want 'that' call. Where did you purchase it? Sounds like you have a proactive mechanic that set it up.

EVAP
I took mine totally off my GTS. Then ran the overflow gas line (from the filler neck) down the left side of the engine compart to drain under the engine ....if I over fill the tank. Then plugged the brass fitting on the fuel injection (where the EVAP line fed into) with a rubber cap.

Nice Job!

Some here might berate you for "polluting"...

Where'd the rubber plug come from?

Either my GTS arrived without the evap hose connected or the dealer disconnected it. I am convinced it just did not rattle off.

Vespa of Charlotte is my dealer, BTW.

I just yanked out the canister and plugged the line, let the overflow tube run off to the side of the engine. No big deal, and it does seem to idle better.
