Sent the link to our grandson, who's lusting for a Vespa shifty, with cc to our son.

Guess which one is still talking to us and which one isn't?

Anyone seriously thinking about going for this?

BTW megnez, how's your newly acquired shifty doing?

Hijacking my own thread:

Its running great. I don't ride it nearly as much as I'd like. I'm still unsure about riding it in traffic and when its dark, so i don't ride it to work yet, which is what i bought it for . So basically I'll ride it a couple of short times on the weekends. Lame, I know. I really want to be hardcore about it, but I feel like I'm psyching myself out or something... anyone else ever feel like this?

Try scootn' around your hood at dark just to feel comfortable. As far as work goes, try to find an alternate route to take where there might not be much traffic. You just have to ride and you will start to feel comfortable.

I understand the fear part, but sometimes it's just better to just say f*ck it and just ride. It's what I had to do when I first bought my Sprint and riding it in 50-60mph traffic. Just hold on, and haul ass !

If that doesn't work, then trying finding other people to ride with. Once you see other people riding it may make you feel a little bit more comfy on your scoot.

Good luck~

Take your time. I wouldn't push anyone to do anything until they feel comfortable. Everytime you get on it will get easier. When I first started I ran to work before most people were awake and felt very comfortable even in the dark. It was around all the cars at 3 in the afternoon that I got nervous. If it is that much of a worry for you look into a motorcycle saftey course....might help some.

Already took it. It doesn't really prepare you for rush hour traffic and night riding... I just need to find the time to do more riding.

I first took my bike to work the day after i learned how to shift into second gear. I had nothing but stick shift cars till recently so i kinda knew what i was doing. Also riding road bikes and fixies probably helped eliminate any fear of being on the road with traffic. You just always gotta be aware of your surroundings because not everyone else is! It was scary for the first ten minutes or so then after that it was party time! It'll come to you when the time is right I guess. It took me a good six months or so to just feel comfortable on hills in my car when i was a kid. Just keep at it!

Back to e-bay! Bidding is up to $2425 with 31 hours to go. Anyone want to try to guess the winning bid?

I'll throw my hat in at $3874.99.

Closest guess without your guessing going over gets a free bottle of Ouzo when you come to Paros. The trip, however, is on you!

Using a Price is Right strategy... I guess $3875.

No, seriously, I bet bidding can go way up in the last few hours (it's currently at $2750 with 8 hours to go).

I say an outrageous $4100 just for fun.

Absolutely. A friend sold several items for us on e-bay when we were moving here. She does it for a modest commission, and is quite good at pricing, description, etc and handled payment, shipping and so on. These were items of fairly good value that just weren't going to sell where we lived. Would be 5 or 6 days of "insult" followed by lunacy. Once guy bought an item at 25% over the going market value, and a month or so later, he had it back on e-bay at a 15% over what he aid me for it, according to an e-mail our friend the e-bayer sent us here.

Who knows what the winning bid will be on this baby and if it will end up in the hands of someone who appreciates what they are getting or just mindlessly buys on e-bay.
