Man, I'm kicking myself over this one!

I'm normally so careful approaching intersections where the opposite direction is making left turns.

3 lane road...traffic stopped in the left 2 lanes so I move over into the right-most lane. For whatever reason, I didn't slow down approaching the intersection and a car came out of nowhere making a left, cutting me off. I wasn't going very fast but I did hit it.

Walked away and drove home with nothing but a jammed thumb.

Question is, what do I need to check out on my scoot? The front mudguard was destroyed but it seems to ride ok with no misalignment/warping of the tire. I rode home 10 miles and it seemed ok. Any suggestions? I'm wondering if all i need is a replacement of the mudguard.

Surprisingly, no apparent scratches on the body (the scooter as well as me). Relieved at being able to walk away...

Wow, that's super lucky. Glad to hear you're ok. Pitty about the scoot, though. At least the body is intact.

Personally, if it were me, I would get a shop to check it over as soon as possible. I use my scoot for everyday transport, so I'd want to know immediately if anything was wrong, or had the potential to go wrong due to the hit. Like getting a delayed pain from a sprain, occasionally mechanical stuff doesn't immediately show a problem. Coulda knocked something slightly askew that you don't notice and you won't know it until it crosses a certain threshold.

I should get the front fork checked out. It can become bent with a collision of that sort.

(Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer.)

From your description, it seems that the driver was at fault and should be liable for any damages to you or your scooter.

Thanks for all the responses.

I feel better today...hand is swollen but like many of you have mentioned, I'm safe.

Called the insurance and gave them the same description of what happened and they said it was the other driver's fault (what a surprise). Am waiting to hear from his insurance.

I will have everything checked over and pull the cage out of the garage. I normally get to work in 30 min but today it took an hour driving. Yuck.

Hopefully, the repairs can be taken care of sooner than later as I'm eager to get on the road again.

Thanks again.

So, I just heard from the other guy's insurance who said he was 100% liable.

My scoot is in the shop being fixed but I did have some other questions for you guys.

I don't remember hitting my head and the helmet shows no scratches or anything but, shouldn't I still be entitled to a new helmet regardless?

Also, as far as injuries go, I did have some big bruises which I took photos of and my hand still hurts (but is slowly getting better).

Anyone else have experiences with a bodily injury claim? The other agent said if I wanted to file for pain and suffering, I could after seeking whatever medical attention was needed. Haven't gone to the doctor yet to check out my hand but I guess if I wanted to file, I'd have to.

What do you think? Any opinions?

The guy is chuckling, you didn't sue his ass off. This could
have gone the other way financially for you.

have gone the other way financially for you, you still have
time to see the motorcycle lawyer. The call doesn't cost you anything.

mmm...i dunno if it's really necessary to go to such an extreme as hiring a laywer. i've been in a car accident where the process just got so drawn out it was ridiculous.

question is, does anyone have an idea as to how much compensation i might be due on top of reimbursement of my medical (should there be any). [/quote]

Accidents---get examined
As a former Health and Safety Engineer, I covered a lot of accidents. The body is a complex unit and sometimes injuries are masked. Shoulder injuries are one of the most expensive injuries because of the physical therapy and restricted movement. I have seen individualswith injuries that hid for six months until pain , CT scans, and MRI's revealed the extent of the damage. Always see a doctor and record the fact that you were involved in an accident and list any pain or uncomfortable feeling even if it if minor so you have documentation. Otherwise six months down the road you will be paying big medical bills for something that could have been covered by insurance coverage.
