I saw this on the Internet and it looked interesting, so I got one and installed it on my Vespa, It is a battery operated LED Bright Red flashing stop light that works by a mercury switch turning it on when you do a fast or a hard stop, when stopping in a normal slow manner, they do not come on and they are so fast that I was not able to get a picture of them flashing, as soon as you come to a stop they go off. I attached them on the top case base mounting plate. I always am looking for anything that will make riding safer and make me more visable to other drivers, I think it would be a good idea for Vespa to install something like this at the factory and be hard wired into the electrical system, rather than battery opperated. In this picture they appear as 4 small white plastic bulbs just under the top case lock and red removal button.

Are they rigged up to your electrical system and do they only blink when you apply the breaks?

Or...do they blink independently/all the time?

I saw a LAPD cop with similar lights on the side of his bike...really caught my eye and effective....

They come on during hard braking--there's another version out for bicycles, works the same way. They're battery-operated, only blink during the braking cycle (which the OP described).
