Looks interesting...
Some of the $50 helmets seems to be safer than $500...

I'll be interested in seeing the data for modular (flip-up) helmets when available.

The sharp tests are a load of rubbish

£50 helmet > expensive arai = fail

They do most the testing on the side of the helmet, they said sommet like 60% of impacts are on the side of the helmet, but they messed up the figures cause the figures said 30% on left 30% right 40% front, or something like that, so they aint done rigourous testing on frontal impacts which is statistically the most likely part to be impacted.

Blatantly taken from the LCGB site:

My opinion, derived from years of experience working for helmet manufacturers and distributors:

Some full face helmets on the market are made of inexpensive substandard materials. Designed by Far eastern countries with mainly profits in mind. The spike tests (impact resistant test) still performed are outdated and unrealisitic.

Open face helmets are always going to lag behind in the saftey stakes because of the obvious lack of a front section!!!!!!!!!

However I'd rather be wearing a quality open face helmet (Davida) that fits properly than a Arai RX7 that was 2 sizes too big!!!!

Making sure the helmet fits you properly is "The most important thing" I have seen so many people purchase helmets and say "Its comfortable, I'll take it" when its quite obviously the wrong size.

My advise is too try many different styles and makes of helmet on until you find one that fits you as they should, if it has to be open face then buy one that drops below the jaw line at the side (Davida, Bell) to at least protect the side of your face properly. Lots of the modern open face helmets now available sit very high on the head and offer little or no side protection at all!!!
