Just noticed on my gt200 that there is a squealing noise only when i am idling. Sounds like its coming from the engine but i dont know. Also when i kill the engine its the last noise i hear. When i give it gas it goes away.

Should i be concerned.......Anyone know what it could be.

Thanks

How many miles are on the scooter. Is it loud? (ie: can hear it from a few feet away) Or do you have to try to hear it? Can you tell if it is coming from the LH side or RH side if you crouch do low and get close? Will it do it at any temperature? Hot engine, just after a ride? At first Start-up?
Just trying to narrow down a little.
I would lean towards maybe something around the belt area.

Im not sure if this is even close, but on my GTS after the second belt change when I put everything back together I developed a squeak on take off. After taking the thing down twice i noticed a funny wear pattern inside the clutch drum. Turns out the clutch dust was not letting the clutch fully retract and the runout of the drum would contact the edges of the clutch pad. I took the clutch outside and used a compressor to blow the dust out. I was taken back on how long it took to blow the dust out. I mean I had a cloud so if you do this make sure you are outside and upwind I took a lube pen and put a very small amount of lube on the pins where the clutch feeds out. The noise went away. I think the dust was getting into the mechanism not letting the pads retract.

Good luck

Ok now can you tell which side it is coming from. I would say it is something to do with the belt or clutch. Did it start doing this as the weather got colder? Winterized what was actually done to it?

Re: Squealing at idle
I had something like that, and if it's what I had check the water/coolant pump. Mine started do the noise now and then, but later became more regular at idle or low revs. If it is the pump, then it could fail at any point in 1 hour or 1 year...but it would suck to have it fail on the highway or in city traffic.

Anyway good luck. They're not that expensive $90+/- but don't forget labor.

ciao

xman, you could be right. From some of the other threads that i searched it does seem to be the water pump. It is not coming from the trans side. Next time i hear it i will put my ear to the pump and see what i hear. If it makes the noise then i will keep a close eye on it..

Thanks for alll the help
