The trailer is at the bottom of the page.

It's going to be a prequel to the original 1979 Star Trek movie (or even the original TV show).

Looks like we're going for a Mission Impossible style of movie...

I'm putting the nerd hat on now, kids. Looks out...

It's a prequel to the TV series; how Kirk becomes captain to the Enterprise, Capt. Pike is there, how the crew comes together with a healthy dose of "re-tooling" to the original ST canon.

Capt. Pike, I believe, is the Enterprise captain at the start of this movie. As for Spock and emotions, remember, he's half human and has to work a little harder than the rest of his Vulcan buddies to keep his crap bottled in. He's let a smile or two out, even some rage during the Ponfar, during the original TV series. In fact, if you look at the original pilot, he's as emotional as a kid going through puberty.

Looking forward to the movie. Looks like fun.

I'll keep the nerd hat on for now. Just in case.

And for all you Heroes fans, the wonderfully evil Sylar (Zachary Quinto) is Spock. Plus it has the advantage of being a JJ Abrams movie which for me makes it a must-see.

Everyone here pay attention..
STAR TREK..
You will watch it. It is in the rules.
You will not care who is in it, you will not care how real it is.
All you need to know is A) Star Trek and B) Kirk gets Uhura....
Read some of the history of the original series.
Ground breaking stuff there.
We now return you to your normally scheduled programming..

I don't think it's necessarily NSR. There were two scooters/motorcycles/ personal transit units/whatever, just in the 2 minute trailer. Personally, I want to know where that motorcycle cop gets his gear.

One of my most unique experiences in grad school (75) was to win a drawing for who would be among the 7 students/faculty to have dinner with Gene Rodenberry when he was on campus to speak. A true visionary. During the intros, he commented that he was also a combat aviation veteran, and we swapped some war stories, using our hands as only we aircrew can do.

During his presentation to the campus at large, he discussed the changes that had to be made to the pilot to make it more acceptable to the network. His wife, Majel Barrett played the first officer to Capt Pike. Having a woman in this role was too "unrealistic". Thus, she became Nurse Chapel in the series. Roddenberry remarked, "Majel was probably the only woman in Hollywood who ended up getting a demotion and still married the producer."

In Viet Nam, we had an absolute rule of silence in our unit's officers' club when Star Trek was on. Could only order drinks during the "commercials", which were really info segments to fill in the time where a real commercial would have been placed so that the shows ran in 30/60 min segments.

Great to see that the vision of "Great Bird of the Galaxy" will live on.

Hey Marcster, did you happen to see Gene Roddenberry when he toured with the Star Trek tv series blooper reel in the 70s? He used to show that blooper reel everywhere they would let him set up a projector and then tell stories and beg people to contact the studio and push them to let him make the Star Trek movie. What a character. RIP Gene...

No, I didn't catch that... I'm more of a ST:NG fan (I've rented the entire collection from Netflix, even though I saw them all on TV already).

And, fellow Stella bro, the car Kirk was driving was a manual shifter.

AND...I think Scotty was drinking a PBR in the pub shot. I was almost certain I saw a Modern Vespa patch on one of those techs too.

Fav episode was "the trouble with tribbles" I too liked TNG. To me it had it all great casting and story lines. As a kid i faithfully watched the first Star Trek every week. I don't remember any other sci-fi series on at that time. To bad gene and majel aren't around to see the new movie. Majel died not that long ago so she might of had a hand in this one or at least known about it.
