Ew. Not in the morning, please! I was planning to take off my stupid merkin fur skirt off the scoot for this.

I have got a dandy little smoke screen for the GTS, but all it seems to do is direct wind onto my head. Not great but it looks nice.

the slightly taller mini-screen is a decent compromise i think - slight increase in helmet wind noise but i always use earplugs anyway since installing the LV. i would've loved the smoked little mini screen like the one you two have got but i knew it wasn't going to be enough protection for me at motorway speeds.

I'd like to second what Genie said .The semi tall screen is the best because it flips most of the wind just above your helmet.
It also works better the faster you go.

Thank you also for the above good wishes.

It's such a shame that you won't be joining us but I'm sure that we'll be back over later in the year so we can all meet then.

I'm sure there will be plenty of pictures take by Donna so we can show all the people that couldn't make it what a great time we had.

I'm really looking forward to meeting some new faces.

Ride safe all.

I have ridden the Interloper around the block at no more than 50kph. I have one thing to say about the semi-tall screen. No offence to Genie but I hate the noise it makes.

oi. i've got that screen too!

it does stop you being blown off the back at speed. i've had mine for over 2 years now and, although i sometimes feel like removing it, i only have to remember the wind-blast above 50mph to leave it well alone.

i like the tinted one too but it looks quite a bit smaller so will probably stop a lot less wind.

If you are lucky you may in fact get to meet and test this famous cutdown on the weekend!

Genie, what is the point in getting a lovely sounding exhaust and then putting ear plugs in all the time? You may look great, but you cannot hear anyone telling you so!

Charles.

Yeah, I am finding it annoying. Road home today and while it does something for stability, it is a pita noise wise. Not so good if you are tall.

Where can I find this compromise screen everyone is talking about?

Your San Diego friend
Okay, so I'm back (on the blog). Looks like most of you will be in Belgium this weekend when I'm in London supervising teens. If, you're not - I have San Diego scooter shirts for trade. I am in lust with your new stickers. I would love to have 2 - one for my Vespa 150, and one for my hubby's 250. I also want an "L". Will look for new, but would love old. I'll be at the Days Inn, South Bank - 54 Kennington Road - Fri, Sat, and Sun night. One of the nights we're taking the teens on a ghost walk. I am subject to their demands, but . . . I am only in San Diego for another 17 hours. If interested, check out my shirt picks on our meet up site: /www.meetup.com/sd-scooters/ Then look for Megamod. If you are interested I can send you my UK phone #. I have ladies sizes S-L, and mens sizes S-XL: both in short or long sleeve. I need to know if I should pack these tonight.

no, not at this point. i took off the cutdown screen (it's in storage waiting to be put back on for winter commuting) and replaced it with the 'tall mini-screen' because i too hated the noise of the taller screen and i found it made the front end of the scooter dance around in the slightest breeze. i now sport the screen below and i love it:

i don't think you've ridden it with the new mini-screen, i think you rode it when it had the cutdown on it. anyway it's in the storage room now.

If anyone other than me is planning the route from Dunkirk to Ieper, bear in mind the car ferry docks West of Dunkirk (towards Gravelines), not the centre, so the road out is the N316.
Therefore, my route heads South to the D2 and then due East on D2/D17a/D3 to Bergues.

My current (Saturday 4th) screen is very much like yours. I prefer the looks with that one most!
Actually, riding with the large/full screen is a 100% pleasure except when riding in turbulence from other vehicles...it makes all wobbling and dancing for sure.

So I am curious on the large cut-downs and their practical behaviour 8)
This is mine and my sister's GTS in Sint-Truiden market square, showing both genuine Vespa large and small screens.

Afraid of getting lost in Flanders? Why should you. On every streetcorner there is a pub with friendly people willing to help you. And I suppose (am suppose ) that there will be lots of cycling lovers on the road on saturday and sunday. Mind you, they don't know about any rules.....

Ha ha...To be honest, I once did get lost by car in the Wallon Ardennes. I had to go from Durbuy to Namur...no maps, no clue...dark and rainy Crying or Very sad emoticon

I stopped at every pub on every corner with just one question in my best French...rather unsuccesfully:

OK, so this morning on my way in to work my bike DIED!

Lurching all over the place, stalling and coughing badly. Bit of spark plug wiggling etc and I managed to nurse the bike (just about) to Scootech with about 20 stalls on the way. They asked if I was a member of the strangely named "scooter club" as I said I was sort of planning but not really on going on a road trip over the weekend.

As soon as they realised I was part of the club that does not really exist they laughed and then put the bike on "priority fix".

I have had a text to say it is ready, however, I need to be 100% sure it is fine as I obviously do not want to get stuck abroad with a broken bike.

So, I am off to pick it up and subject to the report, I am in touch with Border about transferring his ticket to me.

If it is not 100% OK, they have lent me a 15 year old 50cc Zip that does at least 32mph (indicated with a tail wind of at least 15 mph) so I may just have to leave 12 hours before you all!

Charles.

Lousy luck, Charles - but as with my ET4, be glad it happened this side of the Channel.

Hope you'll be joining us! I've got a cargo net so we can always strap the Zip on the back of my bike if we need a bit more progress

Charles you can borrow the Shitty if you want. You'll just have to put it on your policy. I heard you'd been in Scootech Charles. As has young Marc, bringing Karen a slice of cake. I am being usurped!

You'll probably have much more fun on it despite looking desperately uncool.
