My 300 is making that Angry Sea Lion noise from its clutch at only 3000km. Not very good really. Grrr...

Time to take the transmission cover off and clean the clutch. I'm surprised it happened so soon. Only happens when its hot though, doing a lot of city work.

A penguin driving through Arizona on a hot summer′s day when he realises his car is leaking oil. So he finds a service station and asks the mechanic to check his car over. He′s asked to leave it an hour and call back. Meanwhile the Penguin went for a walk and had a large ice cream. His short little arms ensure the ice cream is all over his face. Returning to the Garage ice cream all over his face, he asks what was wrong with the car. The mechanic replied, looks like you′ve blown a seal. No, no says the penguin it′s just ice cream.

Have you tried blowing compressed air in through the holes where the chrome Vespa cover goes?

Might save you pulling the tranny cover.

The two easiest fixes are 1) Getting up to speed for a while 60 to 75 mph, that usually clears most of the dust out of the clutch drum. 2) remove the chrome Vespa cover on the transmission cover and blow compressed air into all the holes. I usually have the engine running with the scooter on the center stand and the rear wheel spinning to help clear out the dust but that probably isn't real necessary. If you do have the wheel spinning be sure no to push the nozzle into the holes and hit the clutch!!! Taking the transmission cover off and blowing everything clean with compressed air is good but a lot of work. #1 is by far the easiest and most fun and usually quite effective.

That's only a temporary fix though - so I have always just <shrugged> and accepted that slow hot filtering will induce it. Narrow London streets don't help - I've not had the problem anywhere else.

Guy sees a penguin walking on the sidewalk. Takes the animal by his hand and walks him to the police station to ask for advice what to do with him. Police officer suggests to take the penguin to the zoo. Guy agrees and leaves.

Next day, that police officer is on patrol and sees that same guy, hand-in-hand with the penguin, walking. Pulls over next to him and asks him why he didn't take the animal to the zoo. Guy responds that he did, and the penguin enjoyed it. Today they were going to the movies.

I think a temporary fix is better than no fix at all. Just clearing the dust out of the clutch makes the scooter much smoother and nicer to drive. One of the nice things about a modern Vespa is how smooth they are. My clutch was grabbing quite a bit from driving in stop and go traffic in downtown San Francisco, just getting onto the freeway for 5 or 10 miles cleared it right up. It will be back but it is pretty easy to clear it out on the freeways around here. I guess it would be easy to put up with also, I just wanted to pass on an easy remedy even if it may be only temporary. I also assume less dust may mean less wear on the drive belt.

Nyle told me about this fix and it seems to work, spray brake cleaner in there until nothing but clear brake cleaner runs out the bottom. I spray it in the belt exhaust area as well. Works for me the couple times Ive had that mad seal sound. I always have that sound after new belts.

Good luck
