Hi All! I'm fairly new to the scoot scene (last year) and am really enjoying out Fly 150. Last year only 300 miles, this year about 600 miles this month. I have been reading the forum for a year and just recently signed up, i really enjoy the info. From what I read most are saying the windscreen will help your mileage? What I really want to know is how much they affect handling when meeting a semi or motorhome which you can feel without. Also, do they affect the top speed very much? I am now getting 66 mph indicated and 63.6 on gps which seems very good.
Thank you for you respones in advance.

The screen should help your top speed since the wind is flowing over and around it instead of your body. The problem is that there is not much choice in screens available for the Fly -- only the full screen from Piaggio. I got the full screen and modified it since the full screen was brutal in the rain, especially at night.

There was a thread a few days ago about this --> Piaggio Fly 150 - Which Flyscreen?
and lots more if you want to do a search.

Givi makes a windscreen that fits the Fly. I have one on my Fly 150 and I like it better than the Piaggio screen. It has black tubing around the light area that eliminates glare from the headlight when driving at night and the screen covers the handlebar areas a little better.

Personally I hated the part of the screen that covers the grips. My hands get hot riding most of the time, even with gloves that have mesh between the fingers.

Thanks for the info so far, but I have to bump. I've had no comments on effects of windshield when riding in the wind or meeting large vehicles like semis, motorhomes etc.

You will get some jet wash with any windshield when riding a scooter. You will feel it more on highways at higher speeds than on regular roads around town. You can easily travel up to 50mph on back roads without being too uncomfortable. Where I notice the jet wash more is when traveling on a highway with multiple other vehicles going at different speeds. There's a lot of air being moved around and you'll feel it more with the windscreen.

That being said, you will get used to the feeling and since the Fly tops out around 60mph, you're not going to get blown around too much.

The Givi screen that I have on the Fly is a little shorter than the one I have on the 300.

The main benefit of the screen is keeping you protected from debris, some of the elements of riding on the road, and noise. The wind deflection will be minimal on the Fly.

I have a question on how you mounted the Givi windscreen:

Is the rubber tubing tight against the plastic, or do you have it elevated so there's a small gap?

The Givi screen that is shown is a perfect fit for the Fly. There is a small gap between the rubber and the light. The amount of gap is controlled by the 4 adjustment holders on the the vertical support bars. The screen mounts easily in the openings where the Piaggio screen would.

Thanx ... so, I assume you didn't lower the screen so that it actually rests on the bodywork.

It's really close but there is a little gap to allow some air to get through.

Do any other windscreen models fit the fly? The ones made for it are way too tall.

Only option for the Fly is to cut it down yourself. I'm looking to do this in the future, but have too many other projects taking up my time.

There have been several threads on performing a cutdown. lots of good advice and techniques to ensure success. Easy to search here.

I know what you mean about having a lot of projects. I was just looking for a simple solution that doesn't require me to learn plastic skills. With how many of these things that have sold you'd think someone would be producing more than one windscreen for it.

Try the local shops, they may know/have someone that can do it for you. I bought mine 'precut'.

I read somewhere that the ET4 windshield will fit the FLY, I havent tried it myself, so cant say for sure. But if they do, it adds a few more options.

The horizontal spacing between the mounting holes in an ET4 windshield is close to that of a Fly; therefore, the mounting frames can indeed be fitted to a Fly. However, an ET4 frame does not have a return that locates the windshield rearward, as does a Fly-specific unit. So, an ET4 windshield sits forward of the headlight, resulting in a Lite-Brite effect at night. Also, an ET4 windscreen has a round opening for the headlight; this does not match up with the inverted triangular shape of a Fly headlight.
