For those who are attending this ride; we meet at the lodge at 9:30 and leave at 10am SHARP! No scooter time take off.

We have a 2-3 hour ride to SJB then you will have 1 HOUR to soak in the sights and smells of the historic Adobe Mission and Old Town. The cost for entrance to the inside of Mission is $4.

We will have one several stops:
1st is the top of Hecker Pass to absorb the views of the Monterey Bay.
2nd is a gas stop if you should choose.
3rd is the Old Fire House Market for some tri tip sandwiches and cold drinks. You are responsible for purchace your own lunch. They also have chicken and pork. The cost is $5.99 each.

If we can get a count ahead of time then we can pre-order to make this stop less painful.
Then off to SJB!

We will backtrack some of the route. But goal is to return the more direct route. The speed will range from 35-55mph. This is ok for all scoots 125cc+

This will not be a race but rather a time to enjoy the sublime beauty of the Californian back-roads. You'll experience several dfferent micro climates, view miles of agricultural areas that bring the salad and fruits to the supermarkets around the world. You'll smell the freshly pick strawberries, Garlic patches, and feel the cool crispness of the redwood forests.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/scooterpics/sets/72157620795148648/

We will have many VCLG and the Quitters members leading the ride, sweeping the rear and controlling traffic as much as possible along with a support truck. We will not leave ANYONE behind!

Here is a link to the route. Please print a copy for you or put it on your phone or GPS if you have one.

A peculiarity of the Central Coast of California, also known as Santa Maria steak!

fyi for all, there is no gas in SJB, have found out the hard way on that one.

There is an abandoned gas station, but no gas.

You can get fuel at the old Firehouse in Aromas when you grad your Tri-tip. It's funny, I've been commuting through San Juan Bautista for 21 years, know it like the back of my hand and I'm still all pumped about the ride.

If I can get an idea on how many riders we might have, I can let the firehouse know what to expect, so they can step it up on the BBQ.

Weather forecast for tomorrow in San Juan Bautista says that the high will be 81 degrees. Perfect! I was worried that it was going to be too hot.

Now I'm worried that I haven't studied the route enough. I hope you all are prepared to be led astray...

We can all run over to the Los Gatos CSAA around the corner and clean them out of San Juan Bautista maps.

Need anybody to help ride sweep?

That depends largely on how many bikes show up this morning. I'm going to be fairly petrified if it turns out to be more than 100 riders.

Hey Jess, it was nice seeing you and Rachael this morning. Remember, if you have a ton of scoots, to break-up into smaller groups. It'll make the whole ride less stressful for everyone.

I was able to handout (leave on scooters) 200 RidePackets for the NorCal "Ride for Kids" next October. I was there before the sun came up, kind of like a thief in the night, but it was great seeing all those scoots in one place, including a pre-50's vespa with mechanical shift linkages and a beautiful red Salisbury.

It was nice seeing Rex, Smrf and several others; but before I knew it, it was time for me to head home. Have a enjoyable and safe ride today guys and gals! Sorry I missed you again RenoBob.

I heard the count was between 120-150. Looked like more to me. Definitely more than 100. You seemed very at ease and in control, Jess.

Thanks to all for doing such a bang up job organizing and running this ride. I'm sure this kind of thing isn't easy.

Do you guys have any route maps you can share? We passed through a ton of places I don't know the name of and I'd love to have something to refer to.

Mrs. Quig and I really enjoyed the ride today to San Juan Bautista via the back roads of the South Bay. Beautiful weather, great roads and scenery, plus skilled ride guides equal one fun day for all! Thanks to Jess and all the other blockers and ride helpers. I can't wait to see what else is in store this weekend!

Orange vests were all the rage for about two hours today then inexplicably and suddenly went out of style before I even had a chance to go to the mall and get one. I suppose it's best to be a trendsetter, not follower.

Good job guys! Gitta even led 4 of us through a detour when a Gilroy roller who was probably unsympathetic to traffic blocking pulled up to an intersection. We did not get lost or crash. What a pro!

Dude, that was you? Making the sandwich announcement? LOL. I'll be wearing an orange plaid shirt tomorrow, riding a blue LX with checkers, and have the only black Corazzo jacket with a MV staff and SPAZ patches on one sleeve and ModernBuddy and a different MV one on the other.

Glad everyone had a great time! Seriously, I was sweating it the whole time, worried something would go wrong. Nobody went down, nobody broke down, nobody got lost. W00t!

Major, major shout-out to Rex and Gitta for blocking like the pros they are, to my fellow Quitters for stepping up, and to VCLG for letting us participate. And of course, thanks to everyone for showing up!

Jess and the Quitters, thanks for giving Gitta and me the opportunity to work with a bunch of fine people like you, Oz, Francis, Bagel, Venicio, Ian, and others whom I may have left out. Rev, u too for taking on a couple of intersections. Organizing a huge ride like this is difficult. Executuing it is challenging and we're all happy have been a part of it. And of course, thanks to everyone on the ride for cooperating accordingly especially to those who stopped and didn't go through that one interesction I was blocking . I was like, "Why is everyone stopping?" I didn't realize I was actually blocking a cop who then had the green light!

Good times!

And of course, thanks to everyone on the ride for cooperating accordingly especially to those who stopped and didn't go through that one interesction I was blocking . I was like, "Why is everyone stopping?" I didn't realize I was actually blocking a cop who then has a green light!
But that cop was cool...he got on his PA and told us to "Ride safe."

Thanks to all of you for making this a spectacular ride!

And one other great thing: as the ride was leaving SJB there were clusters of Harley riders parked along the main street, standing next to their rides, watching (with some amusement) as we roared out of town.

I was near the end of the group, and heard one of them yell out (clearly as a joke): "And don't come back!!"
