Here's some pic's of the air horn on my P200E,
It's not as loud as I had hoped, I may have to put in a better air hose.

I had to tape up the air horn where it was shaved down to fit the horncast,
Water was getting into the horn and made it sound weaker.

Although it might also be because of the hose being not firm enough.

It's definitely got a louder sound,
One quick push of the horn button only activates one of the dual horns,
But a long press of the button activates both of the air horns.

It's loud enough for me.

i guess the question is :

Do you think the safety gained from the increased loudness of the horn ( providing it's substantially louder ) is worth the cost of the horn plus the time to install plus the cutting holes in your frame, and loss of glovebox space?

Is it worth it?

Definitely worth it.

I haven't had a problem with cell phone toting SUV's since installing it,
Also It's been great to stop sudden lane changers when I'm up to speed.

The dealer btw installed this horn for free,
Mainly because this is something new to them.
They have never installed an air horn on a P200E before.

thats creative Razz emoticon and yes in some place with lots of traffic or big loud truck walking around a normal horn wont work well.. it happen to a friend of mine while he riding his vespa and a truck pit him so close and almost hit him in the side of his bike and he is luckly he have a loud horn to tell the truck driver that there a little vespa in the side of the truck and almost get crush..

i believe some folk did took their vespa in a loud crowded road so safety does count inluding for a horn that can tell other ppl in the road about ur present if some ppl drive to close to u (after all thats what a horn use for)

accept if u only ride it near ur home and never hit the free way or even just use ur vespa in weekend guess u dont need loud horn at all Razz emoticon

Double check the installation (if you still have the manual). I have a Stebel Magnum compact, too (that I installed myself) and it's oriented 180° on the vertical plane to yours, so that the two leads are facing down.

This may or may not affect your horn's perfomance (certainly it has to be within about 15° of the vertical and if it's not the compressor won't work well). I'm not sure about it being totally upside down.

Secondly, make sure that they installed the horn with the relay that was provided. Some people choose to forgo it (as it takes extra wiring and some space), but this can lead to a dead horn -- sometimes within just a couple of months -- as it gets too much juice.

Here's a pic of my installation (in the cowl glovebox, with the 18 amp/hour sealed lead acid battery underneath it).
External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

There's extra wiring there for the twin Hella lights I have installed on the front rack:
External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

The Stebel air horn is definitely MUCH louder and effective than the strangled duck stock horn. It can take a quick second to spool up (the compressor) but it's definitely loud! Stebel also makes a non-compressor version that's also very loud and probably has a quicker response time.

To activate it I just set up a cheap doorbell by my left foot. I didn't want it anywhere else, or to mess with the original wiring of the scooter (a non battery 6V setup). I had tried other switches, but they were hit and miss. The doorbell can be easily replaced for under $5 if it stops working.

Check the voltage at the air pump while its running. If its less than 12v, then that could be the cause of the lower sound output. If this is the case, you will need to run a heavier gauge wire to the battery and use a relay to switch it on and off (connecting the coil of the relay to the original horn wiring). The original wiring in the scoot is just barely adequate for the standard horn, let alone an air compressor...

I'm hoping that there is a relay installed,
I forgot to ask them when they installed the air horn.

I'm taking it in friday evening to get a Euro style petcock installed,
The plastic lever type standard petcock is faulty and not working properly.

I'll ask about the relay when I go in on friday.

i have to add my two cents here.

i love the things but to say its better than a good stock(battery P) horn is missleading.

it IS different.

the stock is a loud small source and the air is a loud large source.

i tend to think people are more likely to think BIG when they here the air horn.(imho)

with that said,i really think horns are rude and should be used in emergency situations.(unless it sounds like a duck, then it's cool)

i run a wolo air horn on my P and stock duck on the et3.

Looks like standard...

But when you push the horn button, everybody will shocks!

What a loud sound....

Never get problem with battery, I add 1 relay to control the horns.

Be careful with mounting those horns inside the fender there.

You want to make sure that the tire can't swing up that far on it's travel if you hit a huge bump, or you may actually lock the tire up, shred the rubber on a horn, or rip the horns out of the inside of your fender.

you've probably thought of this, though.

I mounted my Stebel Nautilus on the left side of my rear rack. A horn that loud doesn't really need to be mounted up front, and I don't mind the noise because (a) I always wear a helmet, and (b) I already have a good deal of hearing loss from gunfire in the service. I also have the horn button mounted where I can reach it with my left foot. All I can say is, the Stebel is a very effective accident avoidance device in this retirement community where most drivers are deafer than I and apparently blind as well!

Thanks,

Allready tested. full travel of front tire did not hit the horn, Tested with "hard breaking" with full of load at backrack and (only for testing) full load of front rack, the tire still did not hit the horn.

So, after all, I can tell this is safe, as long as you mount the horn with good position, trial 'n error the best place, and make sure tire not hit the horn on full swing position.

Will report if i get another result, but in the last 2 years, daily riding with different type of roads, everything is ok for me.

You guys don't spend enough time in the "general discussion" section. There's always a thread about "how often do you use your horn" popping up. Usually leads to stupid arguments too. I like to keep in mind that different locales have different driving conditions, and different riders have different approaches. I think you can be very safe almost never using your horn. But I also think using your horn can be a good tool to making yourself "visible." I see no reason to get fired up over it. Leave that to the General Discussion, right?

I wasn't talking "stock vs mod horn." Some of the discussion was drifting toward "horn vs no horn"... a discussion I think is pretty loaded since different riders have different needs and styles.

Stock vs mod... that seems like a very worthwhile discussion I'm gonna replace my old toast one and see how it goes with stock. But if I feel a new stock horn wouldn't do the trick should I need to honk, I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade.
