Sounds like you'd recommend someone looking at buying a MP3 to start with the 250 rather than go directly to the 500?
I'm not recommending anything. I'm stating that Piaggio has a new promotion which I think is a good thing for NEW RIDERS getting into mp3s.
I'd rather just start on the 500 even though the 250 is heavier than other scooters I've ridden.
Again, I think this would be a good deal for NEW RIDERS, who are thinking about starting off with an mp3. If you've ridden scooters before and you want more power, then you're unlikely in the category of folks who will be "test riding" one to feel it out and see if scooters are for them.
I've heard the advice that a 250 is great for about everything except frequent highway riding and I don't plan on doing much highway riding at first but my plan is to all but replace my car. And I live in the San Francisco area, with plenty of hills so my concern is will the 250 have enough power top haul my 250 pound body up hills and on freeways? And if I'm taking my teenage daughter (who thinks scooters are lame compared to her boyfrien's dirt bike) somewhere I don't want to run out of power. And I've read posts from countless, like yourself, who have upgraded from the 250 to the 500, so I'm going to try it differently.
Your suggestion to use Piaggio's offer, on the surface, may sound like good advice and is quite appealing, but like most people I'm trying to improve my spending habits and rely less on purchasing with credit. My belief is that it is just not a good practice long-term to buy on credit. So I've made it a point to not buy any scooter on credit (as JimC has recommended) and pay only cash.
I agree completely with paying with cash if you can. But this deal is still smart. Think about this...suppose people can afford to pay cash like you'd like to. Is it smarter to buy a brand new 250, ride it for 1000 miles and decide that you've made a big mistake and take a HUGE hit on selling it, or buy one using this deal, ride it 1000 miles, and then have the dealer refund your money? I think that how you buy it is irrelevant to the promotion and why I bought this up.
I still think that this deal beats the pants off 12 months no interest, no payments, etc.
Boy, do I miss the feeling of instant gratification that impulse buying used to give me.
