Ok, I was more interested in whether I could figure out the model myself (neglected to put my guess in the original post ) But now it is there. The thing about those crummy craigslist adds which don't tell you what it is... well... they don't tell you so you can figure it out!

Music, you know that scoot, am I right in figuring it out?

I don't want to go through life only able to identify I few Vespa models... it's just too depressing

The problem with these bikes is it's almost impossible to tell (and not worth trying) what the model may have been originally. VBB? VBA? Bajaj? With the round tail and mismatched components who really knows?

Frankly, they don't tell you what model it is because they don't know and don't care. "150 scooter" is about as close as you're gonna get I'm afraid.

If you really want to practice modelspotting just hang out over here:

Sorry for the confusion... wasn't buying. Have to be a cool/rare model for me to add something to my "collection" at this point, not some random slow creature from ages past

What would you guys say to me starting a thread in which I repost a pic of each of those vintage models, with a reference number, and people can say something about it in subsequent posts (i.e. "IMHO this model is only worth having in a museum as it is worthlessly slow and finicky")

Posting all the pics with model names would be something people can use as a visual reference (in english) on its own, so if most of the models don't get any "feedback" then, whatever, it's still useful

Bad idea? Good idea? Waste of my time?

Or maybe it could a "model a week" thing

It's going... here's what needs to happen:

Finish the right cowl,
Stick on the new autolube hose and oil sightglass,
Finish painting the left floorboard (sanded, treated, and primed, just needs a slap o' white paint),
Drop fork, stick on new fender, and replace.

Not a lot. Will it be mint after that? No. The frame needs a sandblast and real repaint to make it "mint." But it will look a hell of a lot better and be ridable at that point!

If the damn rain would just stop. Just for a few days. That's all I ask Crying or Very sad emoticon

I mean... it's more VBB than anything else. It's a round tail, which means it's either from the rather short timeframe of 1960-1962 ( when the VBB started production until the VBB went squaretail ).... or it's a Bajaj frame...as they were making indian roundtail VBB frames into the 1970s.

It has the ubiquitous 10" wheel conversion, though.... and someone has put a P-series glovebox on it.

Also, bajaj seats and the black rubber gasket around the glovebox door and another around the gastank. It's got that chrome fender protector too.

So... if i had to guess, it's 95% an overseas restoration. That sentiment has been echoed above, so it seems we're all in agreement.

+1

This scoot has been on Craig's list, E-bay, and for
sale locally, on and off, for over a year or more.
The price started at $4,500 (or something ridiculous like that),
then went to $3,500, then $2,500, now $1800.
It has had many mechanical problems along the way.
I think some of our local shops have worked on it.
He knows what he is selling, and what it is.
I'm sure at this price, someone will buy
it and learn the hard way. Our local Vintage
scene is fairly tight, and this scoot has been
discussed locally(in the past).

People who are unfamiliar with this
type of restoration always say, "what could be wrong with it"
"it looks so good", "I should be able to fix it",
"wow a Vintage 1965 scooter for $1800",
"I'll just bring it to Scooters O and they will fix it",

Sadly, they find out the hard way what the reality is.

i don't worry about identifing the model,

in all these years i know smooth rounded, square blocky, and small frame(none removable cowls)

and when i want to buy one i get it through the pipe line.(somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody that knows the bike)

it's almost like i'm saying it is less important to know all the different vbbbbbs and mk13s and pzx200efs as it is important to KNOW the bike you own and ride right NOW Nerd emoticon

Almost? I hear you, I guess the thing that got me going on this is I've one of those posters with many old vespas hanging on my wall. Have had it since I was in highschool, picked it up in italy when my interest in Vespas blossomed. I was looking at i the other day and realized there are so many more models than what are on the poster, and I just love the look of them all. It's so interesting to see the little changes in styling and think about why it happened along the way... kinda want to take my knowledge of which models have which cowls and so on to the next level. Not for buying... I can't afford another right now. I'm a very poor man. Just for the sake of learning about it. I can't stop thinking about the frickin little things anyway, I might as well know all I can about 'em
