Modern Vespa

I went to install a rear rack on my 08 LX150 and found that the inside of the grab bar was heavily rusted to the point that the threads for the bolts were gone and I couldn't bolt on the rack. Mind you, the bar was sealed before I pull off the plugs and nothing else on the scooter is showing any rust. The dealer says Vespa denied the warranty claim. Has anybody run into this or have any information?

Had the same problem. I invested in a tap and die set and simply tapped new threads. Worked like a charm.

EVERY bike has rust here. Blow out any debris, use wd40 or similar, and be very careful when installing these fasteners. We recently got a bounty of parts from a defunct dealer. Among them were about a half dozen lx grab rails with broken studs in them.

I have had this happen when I had left my scooter outside and before I put a cover over it. Not a warranty issue user error.

Maybe I misunderstood the response, but are you suggesting that this may be problem with scooters that already have the rack installed?
