Modern Vespa

Hi Everyone,

Well my husband Barry (spartan1984) surprised me big time this weekend and bought me a Vespa! He has been riding an MP3 for a year now and I've really enjoyed riding on the back, but the time has come for me to have a ride of my own. She just arrived today and I love her.

I, too, have an LXV and love it! One word of advice: use the seat cover that comes with it. The leather seat is beautiful, but will not stand up to the sun and weather like the standard seats, and the replacement cost is huge.

Thanks shankhill - that's an excellent tip. I want to keep her in as beautiful condition as possible for as long as possible. Yeterday we purchased a satchel for the back -- I have a photo that I'll upload onto the forum a little later -- I'll make a seperate thread because she now officially has a name.

Lesson update - I'm getting better at left hand U-turns but right hand U-turns still scare me. Needless to say I've barely ventured off of our front street yet and I won't until I feel more security.

Does anyone have any tips on how the heck I can remind myself to turn OFF the turn signals after I complete a turn?

It's helped me to train my thumb to push the cancel button anytime I straighten up from a lean.  Not foolproof, but definitely helpful.

Nice to meet you. I'm also new to the board, and also from San Diego County. I live downtown. I haven't bought a scooter yet, but I have my eye on a GTS 300, a white one. I just need to take care of a couple of things.

I can definitely recommend (like many people on the list) that you take the MSF class. I took the class just last week, and we practiced U-turns and many other difficult maneuvers. I took the class on a small motorcycle, but they have scooters also. I took it in Chula Vista, but they probably have something in North County also.

I had trouble on the U-turns; I even tipped the bike over once. After a little practice, though, I gained enough confidence that I passed the test pretty easily.
