I've been reading through lots of old threads. Came across this seemingly very useful mod which jmd found on an italian discussion board (see photo at end of this post). I opened this compartment on my MP3, but it's just a hole all the way down to the bottom (with wires, of course). Anyone got suggestions on what to put there as a tray so I can hold keys, change, winning powerball tickets, etc. in there and so that it is flush around the edges?

Here is where the photo came from in the Italian forum. I translated it in Google Translate and there are no instructions. Before I join the Italian forum, buy the Italian version of Rosetta Stone, and try to communicate with the guy, I thought I'd ask all you geniuses first to see if anyone had done this or had any ideas.

No idea on the mod, but can suggest that you use the free service for translating called Google Translate. I used it recently to translate a 60 page technical RFP from Spanish to English and the resultant work was extremely accurate.

There was another thread somewhere on putting a pop up GPS in that spot.

Looks like velcro was used to keep it closed, a spring hinge on th back to keep it open and cloth is used as a floor which might be attached on the inside of the handlebar cover using velcro as well.

Hey dfray9,
I agree with everything awareness noted, except for the cloth bottom. Based on the pic with keys and stuff, he probably made a plastic bottom.

Here's what I'd do:

1. Remove cover. Add spring hinge and velcro to hold down as noted.
2. Remove two plastic covers over each handlebar.
3. Go to Hobby Lobby or Hobbytown USA and buy "plasticard", the thicker the better. Get a good sharp exacto knife while there. They make stuff called Plastiweld that literally chemically melts plastic and welds it together. Great stuff that won't burn you in the slightest.
4. Using construction paper and tape, cut and tape a perfect shaped floorboard for the hole. Then copy the template on the plasticard and weld.
5. If done right, you prolly won't need anything more than a few velcro strips on the outside to attach to the inside of the bars...BUT...if it were me, while the plastic covers are off, I'd drill tiny holes and tie strap it straigh to the metal handlebars.
6. Once on, replace plastic covers.

That's just me...
