I screwed up and test drove a GTV 250. Now I gots to have one. But I'm having a tough time coming to grips with $7200 (tax, title, and registration included). I'm going to get me one, even if I do have to save a little longer for that price tag.

To back up a step, I've been riding motorcycles my entire adult life as my primary transportation. A couple of years ago I bought a cheap Chinese scooter to see if scooters could scratch my two wheel itch as well. It more than satisfied, so I bought a Genuine Buddy Pamplona for my wife so we could scoot together (she is also a motorcycling enthusiast that enjoys sport touring).

As expected I pretty much wore out my Chinese scooter (a Lance Milan) after 26K miles (I have to admit I knew it wasn't really designed to take that jump across a creek bed, but don't let my wife know.) So I started my search for a more solid scooter for myself. I love my wife's buddy, but like I said... I made the mistake of test driving a GTV 250.

I'm the kind of guy that will drive 500 miles to save 10 bucks (ignoring what it cost in gas to get me there). I've perused this forum for a week and tried all kinds of searches to no avail. Can anyone tell me who is the highest volume Vespa dealer in California where I might get a better deal than $7,200 OTD?

(If this is the wrong type of post for this forum, treat me like the Noob I am and abuse me.)

If that's the case, try contacting David at Vespa Thousand Oaks http://www.vespato.com/new_vehicle_list.asp?sid=07908441X7K2K2009J1I02I52JPMQ4038R0&Manufacturer=363&Category=12&CatDesc=Scooters

Well, the Vespa GTS is the same bike, except for the headlight, guages and seat- it's $900 cheaper. And you can tell your wife you saved almost a grand by going with your second choice.

Or, would you go to 2,031 mi to save $2,200? [topic48118]

Harvey

Funny you should mention Thousand Oaks. My wife and I drove down there a couple of years ago to save $600 on her Honda ST1300 from Thousand Oaks Honda. I'll fire an email to the Vespa sales folks at Thousan Oaks to see if another trip is in order. These Bay Area folks are too used to dealing with dot-com millionaires.

Typically I would go that kind of distance. The ride back with be the reason more than the price. But I've learned the hard way that purchasing an out-of-state vehicle and then registering it in California is a nightmare... the local bureaucracy does everything it can to discourage such transactions.

Done! Thanks for the link. If the transaction occurs I'll be sure to let Dave know that he owes you a commission.

San Jose Vespa is a short walk from my home (I live in that new development where the Del Monte Cannery used to be between San Carlos and Auzerais). That's where I got the $7,200.00 quote.

Props on killing your Lance Milan though. I think 26k might be some sort of record.
