Modern Vespa

so, after 13 years of riding vespas i finally had my first accident on my way home tonight.

i have no injuries, and didn't come off, but my scooter is damaged.

i was travelling home on a busy road and was flitering on the right hand side of slow moving traffic. i was doing about 15mph. suddenly, and without indicating / warning a pimped audi a4 on my left suddenly veered to the right and hit me with a glancing blow. i shouted 'oi!' as his driver's door hit the front of my bike. i was sure i'd come off but managed to stay steady and came to a halt.

when i asked the driver what he did that for he said he was trying to park on the opposite side of the street (against the flow of traffic).

the damage: broken leg shield trim and a slight dent in the front legshield just beside the front indicator.

we exchanged insurance details and i went home to cook a lovely bbq for my wife's family who are visiting us tonight.

i'm pissed off to say the least and annoyed that a young kid in a bright green audi with the personalised number plate featuring the word 'cum' has damaged my bike.

could have been much worse as it is a really busy road (uxbridge road) so i guess i'm lucky.

ironocally, i was about to remove my jacket 5 minutes earlier as it was so hot and have been riding in shorts, t-shirt and birkenstocks all week. even though i didn't hit the deck this time i was still glad i was wearing my boots, jacket, gloves and ff today. i was a bit sweaty though

god, what a bummer... and the 'cum' license plate is just the icing on the cake. i'm surprised the DSA issued it.

it sounds like the same kind of thing that happened to me before christmas - numpty making a last minute lane change without looking. at least your guy was decent enough to stick around and responsible enough to be carrying insurance.

thanks to WM and the idiots that like to tip her scooter, you already know the best place in town the get the bodywork done - i'm glad the damage wasn't worse, to the scooter and most importantly to you.

Kam, that totally sucks, I am so sorry that happened to you. I'm glad you're OK though and that you had the skills to keep the rubber side down. Get your scooter fixed up and like new again.

The real crime here is that you wear Birkenstocks; but I'm willing to look past that and am very glad that you are unhurt.

At least he doesn't war Crocs c'mon. Glad to hear your ok & the cager is at least insured & was good enough to own up.

there seem to be many accidents on my route to work - a40 or uxbridge road. it's a busy route from west london into the centre.

in fact, there was a bad bike accident on the uxbridge road this morning during my commute and my wife texted me at work to check it wasn't me.

just checked my bike and it's a bit more wonky at the front than i had first thought. really pissed off now.

better a wonky bike, than a wonky Kam.

I am glad that you are okay. I hope the bike isn't too bad off. I just got the estimate for mine (just a drop in the garage), ~$2000 Luckily, my insurance is covering everything. We will see if they still want me as a customer next year. It's also going to take about a month, because of July 4th holiday and a big back up at the painter.

Here's hoping that yours is easily, quickly, and cheaply fixed.

Bummer, sorry to hear your story. Could've been a whole lot worse though, so glad to hear you kept it upright and not squished under oncoming traffic! Hopefully that numpty will look in his mirrors at the very least next time...

Make sure the ins. quote is enough to get all damage completely sorted, make sure any loan bike while it's fettled is a decent ride too.

Sorry to hear this but glad you're unscathed. Once the details are sorted I bet you'll feel better about the whole damned incident.

Glad to hear you weren't hurt and i'd figure in a few dozen pints into that insurance claim if i were you MOCKER crocs give you better protection than you think. I had a trailer run over my feet and nary a bruise on my feet. Just tread marks on the crocs

I've had that happen to me a couple of times myself once with a crappy Nissan Sunny near Deptford and then by a truck in the Elephant and Castle which put me on the floor.

They don't even bother looking in there mirrors when they turn right on you do they.

Just glad you did not get hurt. We don't have lane splitting and I don't think we ever will due to cagers not being cognizant of vehicular traffic mix.

actually in my neighbourhood the number one dickmobile is still the merc. and in hackney they have the added bonus of having gleaming exteriors but dodgy MOTs and are likely to give you a blast of oily exhaust smoke as they overtake you because they're arrogant twats that can't stand being behind a scooter.

A inconsiderate Twat in a Alfa nearly did it to me on Wednesday.
A good blurt on the trusty Stebel frightened him to death..
He even apologised to me as my left bar end scraped the glass on his window.

I went home and cooked my favorite Indian meal and felt a lot better afterwards.

Here is the recipe

Try this lads and lasses....I developed this for the Sheezan Tandoori a good few years ago, and they still use it as a base to their rubies to this day...you can make it at home a piece of wazz...once you've done the gravy (or Rasa as they call it), you can cook a ruby in a few minutes...just like the restaurants do..

Curry Gravy.

Ingredients:

1 Med. Onion, finely chopped.
1 Lg. Carrot, finely chopped.
5 Cloves Garlic, finely chopped.

4 tbsp Veg Oil
11/4 pints Veg or Chicken Stock
1 Tin Chopped Tomatoes
1 tbsp Tomato Puree

1 tsp Ground Cumin
1 tsp Ground Coriander
1 tsp Ground Paprika
1 tsp Ground Turmeric
1 tsp Garam Masala
½ tsp Chilli Powder
5 Cloves
5 Cardamom Pods
1 tsp Sugar
Salt and Pepper

Method:

Heat the oil in a large saucepan over a medium heat and add the finely chopped onion, garlic and carrot. Cook for about 5 mins, ensuring they don't burn. Add the spices and stir continually for a couple of mins, again, ensuring they don't burn.

Now add the made up stock, tinned tomatoes and tomato puree. Reduce to a low heat, cover and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and add seasoning.

Now set to one side to cool for about 20 minutes.

Sieve into a large container, making sure you get all possible liquid out. Once you have done this, throw away the pulped vegetables and spices etc.

What you are left with is a very low-fat, "Rasa" or gravy. You can use this for any basic curry, including chicken, lamb, vegetables etc.

You can freeze it or store it in the fridge in sealed containers for up to a fortnight.
