How do you capture a screen image like that?
In
Windows, use the
Print Screen key on the keyboard (usually to the right of the function keys and above the Ins/Del/Home/etc editing keys).
The
Print Screen key will copy an image of the entire screen to the clipboard.
Alt-Print Screen will copy just the active window.
From there you can paste the image into whatever image editor you like.
On a
Mac, the keys are less obvious, but the process is easier.
Pressing
Shift-Command-3* will save a picture of the entire screen to the Desktop as a .png file named "Picture 1."
Use
Shift-Command-4 to capture a part of the screen. The mouse cursor will change to cross hairs; you can then click at one corner of the area you want to capture and drag to the opposite corner. The picture is saved as soon as you release the mouse button.
To capture a single window without dragging, press
Shift-Command-4 and then press the
Spacebar. The mouse cursor will change to a camera, and whatever window is under the mouse cursor will be shaded blue. Choose the window you want and click to save the picture. (Note that the saved picture will include the window's transparent drop shadow but not whatever the shadow fell on.)
If you don't want to remember keyboard shortcuts, you can also launch the
Grab application from the Applications/Utilities folder and use its menus.
*The "Command" key on a Mac keyboard is the key with the Apple logo and the ⌘ symbol.
