Recap: I bought a 2008 from a guy who claimed to take good care of it... the next day the battery was dead. I put my battery from my 2006 in it and it started.
The 2008 battery looked kind of empty... so i topped it off w/distilled water - like I do my 2006 every year (4 yrs good), charged t overnite, and it ran fine... got a tune-up, took a spin, trucked it to my other location (100 mi away) and it was dead again the minute we took it off the truck (no trauma - smooth ride down).
I bought a new battery at my "home" location, charged it up, brought it to my 'dead' baby, and still DEAD!!! I called my dealer back home (the one who tuned her up) and he couldn't really help me trouble shoot over the phone. When I turn the key nothing moves on the dashboard, no movement whatsoever... I have no truck to bring her home till end of summer, WHAT COULD IT BE? HOW DO I CHECK? help? HELP!

If it is the LX50 you are talking about then you could start it with the kickstart and in theory you don't need the battery. Someone please correct me if I am wrong but once the engine is running that provides power for your dash lights horn etc. and recharges you battery. Hope this helps.

If it's true... are they typically hard to kick start, or am I just an utra wus?

Shouldn't be that hard to kick start but if you do get it started and the lights etc. still don't work you will know it is the fuse.

If the fuse is blown, then coupled with the clue that the original battery was low on electrolyte one would suspect the regulator has gone short-circuit.

Where is the regulator? I found a mechanic (Frank) out here in the 'wilds'... but he's not a Vespa man. we replaced the fuse, it ran for a while, but this morning I dropped it in some sand - still running on ground - I shut it off to pick her up, and then it blew the fuse again... subsequently every fuse I put in blows before I can even get a start. Frank doesn't know where to go next. We think it must be electrical, but I did not get a manual w/ this bike. I found an LX150 manual online - is it the same(ish)?? I need help TODAY... any ideas?

Where is the regulator?
It's behind the horn cover, left side, silver in colour

Cheers

So it's not the regulator, it's a chafed wire somewhere. Manual here:

Check your chassis and engine numbers, from the manual:
Chassis number starts with ZAPC38300
Engine number starts with M383M

Thanks AGAIN!!!

It turns out there is probably a short behind her 'kill' switch... my mechanic (non-scooter mechanic) figured it out, but couldn't (or didn't want to) get inside... so he stuck a stick behind it to prevent it shutting off unless I mean to (force it) use it. so far so good...until I can get her to a proper Vespa mechanic back home.
