Hi,

I have a 2005 LX50 that's been sitting for a couple of months as I'm waiting for a friend to buy it. Well, he finally came to test ride it yesterday and the darn electric start won't work! (we did get it kick started, however!)

I assume the battery is dead or needs to be charged, and I just went out and bought a battery tender. I don't have any outside power outlets and will need to remove the battery in order to charge it.

I can't find any information about how to do this! And what about distilled water? How do I know if that needs to be added?

Also, the battery tender info-sheet says to "check the polarity of the battery posts and attach at least a 24 inch long 6 (AWG) insulted, battery extension cable to the negative battery post" blah blah blah -- is this something else I need to buy?

If someone could please explain or direct me to a tutorial I'd be eternally grateful!

The battery tenders usually come with the required cords. The reasoning is they want a couple of feet between the charger and the battery. As far as adding distilled water, carefully unscrew the caps on the battery and look in the holes. The water in the battery should cover the plates. If not, add a little to achieve that but don't fill to the brim.

If the battery is dead just go buy a new one so your friend doesn't get stranded with a dead battery somewhere. Batteries that sit more than a week or so dead are not reliable.

Tip for those who haven't done it before: whenever removing a battery, disconnect the negative first, and reconnect it last. This minimises the chance of any short circuits when using a screwdriver or spanner.

No mate not dense.

You will need your phillips screw driver. There is one in your small factory tool kit (Black plastic bag) Should be under your seat.

Cheers

ROFL emoticon not dense.... there's a first time for everything. just disconnect the wires, then reach in and grab the battery. there aren't any cords to lift it out with.
