My fuel valve won't shut off. I initially noticed when I thought I should be on reserve, filled up, and noted that I was close to dry. Ran a couple tanks through with the lever in the off position but I was sure pretty quick.

Bike runs fine, starts normally, only floods when it's been on a trailer for a couple hundred miles. But I'd like to get the tap fixed. It was running fine for the several thousand miles I've had the bike.

I replaced the 4-hole gasket under the lever and spring, but it didn't help, and the old gasket looked to be in good shape as well.

Anything else to look for? Or just replace the fuel valve?

EDIT: I should add that I was careful about how tight I tightened the fuel tap spring as tight as it could be and still give "normal" resistance to turning the lever, including a second opinion. Made sure it wasn't too tight, but I could be mistaken. I think that would block fuel flow if anything.

I'm getting the U.S. style lever petcock replaced, Same problem as you,
Put the scooter in the shop and I'm having a Euro style lever installed asap.

I replaced the US style plastic job with the euro-style 2-3,000 miles ago, and it functioned fine for that time, so I don't think that's the problem. It's definitely in the valve itself.

I fixed mine by turning the piece that the rod fits into 180 deg. I was getting on and off and I now get a reserve as well.
I'm not certain that that is your issue but that's how it worked for me.
Hope that makes sense.

Yeah, first thing I thought was maybe I reinstalled it upside down, but then the "reserve" position should be off, but gas still flowed when I checked in that position. I was getting off, on, and reserve before whatever happened to it happened.

Is your breather tube OK? If it is broken or missing you can sometimes get all kinds of fuel when you least expect it. It's a curved pipe running from the bottom of the tap and curving up towards the very top of your fuel tank.

I haven't pulled the tap from the bike, since it still runs fine and isn't flooding and I like to ride it, but from looking in the top of the tank, the breather tube *appears* okay.

This problem developed a couple months and a couple thousand miles *after* converting to the Euro style tap, and the off-on-reserve positions were working normally during that time.

When time allows, I'll bring the bike to my friend with the tap wrench and we'll pull it and check it out. I've been told the breather tube can be repaired with metal brake line, is that correct?

An update since I fixed this a while ago. It was the breather tube. I noticed filling up with gas, before I had a chance to pull the tank, that the breather tube was actually swinging around a bit in the gas stream. Next fill up it was laying on the bottom of the tank, and the filter was off the tap as well.

Anyway, pulled the tank, put the breather tube and filter back on the tap and put it back in the bike, worked fine. Easy peasy, I guess. Good to understand how one more part of the bike works.
