I could use a hand here.

This girl buys this fly baby-blue '78px, from a guy who'd obviously babied it, dumps it her first time out, then lets it sit for WAAAAY to long before doing anything about it (ie: selling it to someone who cares for it, like me)

Can't tell which kit has been put on it, but judging from the size of the piston jug, I'd say it was some brand of 177 kit. The carb had already been upgraded from a 20/20 to a 24/24, and the main jet was a 109.

I know this because I just got done dipping and cleaning out the carb, reassembling, and reinstalling it.

I've already dipped the fuel tap as well, and know that the entire fuel system is very clean, new in-line filter and all...

My problem is, I'm having trouble priming the carb.

Can anyone tell me proper settings for all of the jets, air-intake, idle, the like for starting an engine that's been sitting for so long? There's great compression, and with starter fluid, purrs for about 2 1/2 seconds before dying out. I know my problem is in priming a recently installed carb...

beware of in line filters.

indication that the tank is dirty.

i ran a filter and seized a motor(pre mix)

if i had spent a 100 on a tank i would have been cool.

Anyone else?...
Yeah, thanks for the help....

$20 for some M.E.K. and Acetate with some pennies in the tank also brightens up the insides, which I've done. I installed the inline filter myself as a precaution, but the inside of my tank is all sorts of pretty.

I get fuel up to the first bowl in the carb, where the bobber sits. That bowl fills right up.

Another point I forgot to mention in the first post is that my choke rod is jammed inside of the carb. Might that be blocking the flow of fuel into the throttle bowl? It wouldn't really make sense to me, but sometimes the gremlins are sneaky.

I know (up to this point) what I'm doing here, this is all pretty simple stuff, I'm just asking if anyone else has had my problem before, and how they got through it...

so it turns out
my problem was in my patience.

After kicking it over for several hours, we pulled the carb and dipped it and all of the jets again, just to be certain there wasn't any blockage.

Reassembled everything, kicked again for a few, and noticed fuel was starting to flow into the block.

We pushed it up a hill and clutch started her. After a few idle and air-intake adjustments, she roars around town now.

Get ready for pics, It's a fairly cool project bike, and won't take much to get the body in pristine shape. I love the way this old thing handles...
