Wangta..

That is one incredible trip! I will definitly have to go on a trip like this some day. Just a quick question for you.....A trip like that is around 3000+ miles? How do you feel putting that much miles on the scooter in such a short time? The reason I asked is because your GTS is quite new, so to put that much miles on such a short time will have a lot of wear and tear on the scooter. I'm sure 3000 miles on a car in a few weeks is nothing, but for a scooter, that's a whole different story.

So entire trip was actually 4,710 miles! Honestly, I could care less - my scooter was made to RIDE. I did not baby it when I first got it, and didn't baby it on the trip - if it breaks, it will break doing what it was made to do. Yes, it no doubt lowers the value of my scooter, but this is what I bought it for - to ride! Wear and tear comes with the territory - it cannot be avoided. When it becomes too much, I'll buy another one!

Bravo!! Adventure!!
How did you choose your route?

I don't like major highways .

What did you look for to keep you on lesser arteries?

Just found this thread today and read through all of it. It was great going along on your trip vicariously. Your photos are beyond beautiful.
A long scooter trip is definitely in my future (but it may have to wait 'til the kids are out of college - a few more years).
Thank you!!

Great ride report! Very encouraging....planning a 15day trip from Memphis down the Gulf coast to Key West and back home via the Atlantic coast to Savannah, GA and East TN to Memphis. Your report makes me feel better about making this crazy decision! If you guys ever come to Memphis look up the Memphis Scooter Kings...we would love to meet you guys and hear more about your travels.

I see I've arrived at this thread a year late, but reading it has felt "real-time" to me. Years ago, I did a solo crossing by bicycle (NY to WA) and have ever since dreamed of doing another, this time aboard a Vespa. I've always thought that would be a piece of cake compared with pedal-power, but I now see I'm wrong. You faced challenges--mechanical difficulties, zigzagging to find Vespa shops, battling heat, cold and rain at high (to me) speeds--that would've discouraged me just as much as those daunting headwinds and hill climbs once did. My hat is off to you both. You now know that anything is possible! I wish you many more adventures in life that challenge and exhilarate you as this one has...experiences that leave you feeling totally alive, and ten feet tall.

It IS a great thread. And 'great' may be the understatement of the year. What a fabulous and amazing (and unfortgettable) journey, Wangta!

With regards to servers for photos - the only thing I can think of, off-hand, is flickr - which for quite a few years has provided an excellent repository for stashing images. Many photographers use it for many things - including storing a lot of photographs. Not sure if it would meet your exact needs but it might be worth checking it out to see, if you're not familiar with it.

As Jet Peddler pointed out in a previous comment, the photos disappear approx. one third of the way through the thread. Sigh. Which is (and was) quite frustrating. But image questions aside ---

Congrats on making - and surviving - a Vespa adventure Odyssey that ranks up there with the damn fine ones!

Miguel

P.S. hope to run into you one of these days, as discussed, when I get down to the Bay Area next

haha Thanks Miguel - I took your advice and went with Flickr. Took me some time to find all my photos again, but I uploaded a bunch last night and reposted Day 8. I'll be redoing all my posts over the weekend - hard for me to believe this was ~10 years ago. It was fun looking through the photos again.

I have since upgraded my GTS to a 300 but still have the PX200. GTS is my daily but I zoom around San Francisco on the PX200 on weekends - it holds a special place in my heart, especially since I sat my rear on it for 4000+ miles! I am still kinda shocked it made it all the way across without too many issues (excluding the heat in Vegas, which is somewhat understandable).

Would love to meet up when you are down next!
