Is there such a thing as a transport bag that is made specifically for the front vespa hook?
I need to transport small stuff like a few grocery items and such and was wondering is such a bag exists.

I think almost any bag fits. Do you have any tote bags? Do you want it to zipper? I have used just tote bags and I do have a variety of them.

I just double bag the plastic bags and I am set. Then recycle them by using as trash bags.

I don't use that front hook too often on my GTS. But when I do, I use one that can rest on the floor board while attached to the hook. That way it doesn't swing around too much, and if its heavy, it wont stress the plastic of the hook.

Most back packs have a top handle,
But if you want a scooter specific one,
Then Scooterwest has one here.

This is key to successfully transporting stuff with any weight on the hook:

Any bag won't do, it needs to be just the right height (from handle top to bottom), to exactly fit between hook and floor board.

That way, the hook does not have to support the weight, and the bag can't sag and become instable between your legs.

Trader Joe's paper bags fit that requirement perfectly...

WADR, perhaps you might reconsider...
your by-line's wisecrack about the stupidity of half-helmets. I mean, think about this: you are riding a little scooter around on the roads, dissing someone for being unsafe because of their helmet choice? Get it?

I ain't saying full-face are not generally a safer helmet, but, dude...

It's not the best SIG granted,
Considering the original Vespa riders didn't wear helmets,
I never wore a helmet in Italy when I lived there,
Thou, Sometimes, I wished I did.

This is supposed to be a thread about what bag works best using the seat hook. Let's not turn this into a helmet debate ...

I use plastic bags with handles or cloth bags since I don't want to scratch the glove box.

I agree - you have to have the bag long enough that it sits on the floor. Normally it is quite secure even at speed and my feet keep it from swinging side to side

The bag would only swing side to side in a car. Your leaning scooter keeps it pointing to the floorboard Razz emoticon

There haver been numerous threads on this over the years. I am a big fan of Crumpler bags and backpacks.(I have four ). Find a bag that sits on the floor and is simply secured by the hook. Our illustrious leader once called the hook a piece of untrustworthy plastic crap. I have four years of secure laptop toting via the hook with no scary moments.
Try the search function under bag+hook, also Crumpler, messenger+bags.
You will find a bunch of good info.

Good luck.

footnote:
I have recently purchased an HP Mini 1000 10" netbook and a mini Crumpler bag. The whole package fits under my seat for secure parking in the city.

I made this up from an old leather backpack I bought at a garage sale for 2.00. I removed all the back straps and attached elastic with plastic hooks at the bottom and made up two eyelets that are attached to the bottom screws of the glove box. The handle slips in the hook and the elastics hook in at the bottom so it can;t move around. Unhook the top and you can get into the glovebox, the weight sits on the stepthrough. It can fit a laptop or just stuff that you need on tour or everyday. It can be unhooked and set inside top box with room to spare for helmet.

I stick my toes under it (unless it's hot out)

Not sure what this has to do with helmets,
so I won't go there

O.P. I use double grocery bags...whenever I shop and use the bag hook I ask them to pleaes double bag. Believe those reusable bags that most stores are selling for about a $1.00 would work fine.

BTW...I had my glove box panel off today (long story on why...), while I had it off I looked at the screws that hold the bag hook onto the glove box panel and it was a little loose so I tightened it up.

If you ever remove the glove box panel...inspect it.

Why do you all make it seem so difficult? I have a simple cloth bag with knots tied in the handles to make them very short. Works like a charm!

Yup!
I have a couple of Whole Foods bags that say "Used to be a bottle" that are perfect for this
You can knot the handles to make them more secure

However, two (2) of these carry less than my killer turtle bag

I keep one of those 99 cent reusable bags you get at the grocery in my puppy warmer. It is rolled up tight in a big rubber band that comes with asparagus or brocolli.

When I need a little extra space for groceries or other small items, I bring the bag into the store, fill it up and viola!!

If I'm worried about light items flying out (they won't, but why take a chance?) I just put the rubber band around the open end of the bag.

Just remember to put the bag back into the bike every time and you're always ready.

P.

PS--yes I am a cheap bastard, but it works for me. I am free with money when I need to spend it, save it when I don't.

I don't know the answer for your model, but they did make Original Vespa Accessory bags for my ET. 3 in fact. Custom luggage for under the seat, in the Vespa topcase and one that fit on the hook between your legs.

O.K. went out today and used one of my wife's reusable bags and placed three bottles of drinks to check out how they would work...the bag was a bit long in the handle so I just cinched it up to get it off the floor board...I didn't like it sitting on the floor board since they got in the way...even off the floor board the bag didn't swing around that much.

Interestingly the plastic bags (double bagged) works fine.

For heavier loads (20 lb bag of catfood) I picked up a pair of ROK straps and will use these affixed (criss cross) to the passenger grab bars and rear rack to secure. You could probably hook up a milk carton crate / box with same.

Things that hang off the hook actually hang straight down and never swing around while you're riding. For someone proclaiming to have a whole brain I'd of thought you'd of noticed this and perhaps might even be able to work out why. I guess if your sig didn't accuse others who you've never met (including myself) of having half a brain then we'd treat you as a little less of a fool.

I keep this bag from reisenthel in my pet carrier. If you can find one, they are brilliant. And cheap:
External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

It's tough, sits on the floorboard nicely and barely takes up any space when not in use. I fill it with groceries, tie the handles into a knot and then slip the handles on to the bag hook. When folded it fits into that little keyring-thing on the left.

Im sorry, I guess I should have given more detail for the 1/2 brained riders such as your self. Bags will swing around when you get on and off the bike, and when you put it on or take it off the center stand, or side stand in your case.

Actually, I've been extensively studying this issue

The GT is so heavy that swinging bags don't make much difference
(unless you stash them up high, like in the topbox)

But if you strive to set new records for how much weight you can carry on the scooter ( ),
then it's easy to put too much weight on the plastic grocery hook
That weight should rest on the floorboards

Bags
Funny - I thought this thread was dead. I use a crappy Hemp Bag from a recent Craft Beer Expo. After a Trader Joe's shop I over-filled it. I was at a stop-light when a loaf of bread started to fall out. I tried to kick it back in the bag and I almost dropped the bike. Time for a zippered Bag....[/b] Crying or Very sad emoticon

tea bagging
grscum, don't leave. Stay awhile, my fellow San Diegan.

On the issue of tea bagging, I personally don't like the idea of bags swinging back and forth -- not that it'll throw off the bike's balance, but because it'll throw off my ability to gauge my balance with my bike. It's all psychological. I do like my bags to rest a little bit on the floorboard, but not completely that the handles of the bags are so loose.

I love Modern Vespa. Razz emoticon

Afraid I only use the centre stand but I still can't picture the bags moving around that much when you're parking your bike. Even if they do move an inch during parking then I still can't quite see this as being much of an issue - I'm obviously assuming that you're old enough and tall enough to reach the handle bars. When riding along having any weight balanced high on your scooter will cause handling problems - perhaps changing to a lighter 1/2 helmet and perhaps scooping out half that prodigious brain of yours might make your scoot a little easier to ride?
