So after several weeks of trying to figure why I was having trouble starting and running, I finally had it running "fairly" well. Carb was cleaned (20/20), wiring at the junction box on the engine was sanitized, new plug, cap, wire. Made a 10-12 mile run and everything felt fine. Went about three days without running (rain) now it won't start. Not a chirp, not trying. Carb gets wet when trying to start, probably enought gas, doesn't really seem flooded. I can't see a spark with the plug against the engine. I pulled the right hand green wire off the CDI and no joy (thanks Max). I pulled the HT wire off and cut off the ends and rescrewed them on the CDI and cap just for good luck, NFG.

Is there any way to diagnose a bad CDI other than buy a new one and try it? Is there a series of volt/ohm meter type tests that would tell me anything? Stator plate? I have a 24/24 carb coming from Motorsport but I don't think that is the problem. Its really frustrating since it was running reasonable well giving about 42mph (GPS) with a passenger in the car.

I had planned to run the sidecar rig in the 4th of July parade on the island today but I just had a feeling it wasn't ready for prime time.

I don't know the true answer, but that is how I wound up solving the CDI issue on my ET with the mechanic. Little gremlin bastard worked, but only SOMETIMES. Hardly ever, really. Of course whenever the mechanic had a look it started on a dime and they thought I was loony. Finally, after they got really bored with my face, it didn't work for them. I told the bastards it wasn't getting a spark but nooooooooooooo. Sorry, rant over.

Anyway, in the rant-free version of things, the mechanic said the best thing was to see if there was no spark, and if there wasn't swap a good CDI in and see what happened. So that might be the best way...

That's some strange problem, Hope I don't get it,
Is your gas tank locked or seat locked?

Do you have people that hate you?
Sugar in the tank can cause endless grief,
I'm hoping it isn't sugar.

Just asking the worst questions,
This happened to a friend of mine in Italy.

Piss is another problem that can happen.

no Big Foot, none of that.

I am looking for horses now, zebras come later.

I found a ref. to check the resistance of the wires from the generator coils. It looks as if my ignition pickup may be shorted (almost 0 ohms).
