Ok... so i got a two seater for my S and thought it would be easy enough to install... all good, till i closed the seat and the latch latched.. The new seat had no key lock so i thought it wouldn't lock.... but that would be too easy.

So any ideas? What ever was in the key hole looks like the picture below. I don't even know what that thing is called.

Umm... the device that fits in that hole is actually an UNLOCKING device, and in it's absence the seat will indeed lock and be incapable of being unlocked without the device. It is my understanding that new seats come without the locking/unlocking hardware so that the hardware can be transferred from the old seat to the new, preserving compatibility with the existing ignition key. You should have transferred the hardware to the new seat before installing it.

It's considered bad form to give advice on line about how to open scooter seats... for obvious reasons. Your dealer will know how to open it.

To take the lock out of the old seat: Turn the seat upside down. Unscrew the screw closest to you. Then take out the cotter pin thing. The lock should slide out but you may need to put the key in and turn the lock. Put the lock with the key in it in the new seat. You should be able to unlock it. Then take your seat off and install the new lock by reversing what you did to take the lock out of the old seat. It is easier than it sounds.

Takes 30 seconds to a minute. Piece of cake.

3337 has it down pat.

Enjoy...

Yeah just putting in the old lock was the easiest thing to do.... i thought it would have been harder so was avoiding it. But it was the best and easiest solution.
Thanks guys
problem solved!
