I can understand wanting a brand new unit without wondering who put those demo miles on.

Almost every one of the cars and trucks I have owned was ordered to my exact preferences. I don't like to buy off the lot. My Vespa was one of several that were assembled and stored in the dealer warehouse. I had my choice of 4 Daring Plum scooters and chose the one I did because it had less than a mile on it.

I hate to admit that I am the guy who will open a package in a store to see what an item is all about and then buy an unopened one. I don't even want one that I have touched.

Before anyone goes off on that, I have met many people who do the same thing.

It is rather awkward with something like a 52 inch flat screen TV.
You have never been in business for yourself have you? I think that it is BS to do that.

As a matter of fact, I owned and operated a business for 21 years. It was manufacturing, not retail sales. Yes, it is bullshit, but I am far from alone.
There are plenty of people who don't clean up after their dogs either, but the numbers don't change who and what they are. Someone has to come beyond them and clean up their mess - or eat the cost of having to put an opened item in clearance.
Well, thanks to me and my dog, you will always have a job.

I play in both camps. I don't mind buying showroom models on appliances and TV'S I got a top of the line brushed stainless steel fridge for 260 bucks after a rebate Also got a top of the line same type of stove with the flat burners for $400.However my vespa had to be new out of the crate I have a used LT that i bought and got a good deal on. So i hear ya on when paying full price on something you should be the first. I'm also not normal

I bought my bike brand new, it had less than 2 km on it and was sitting in the dealers window. I have no problem with dealers sitting bikes out in the sun all day as my bike gets left out in the sun all day when I go to work. I also would probably never buy a brand new bike again.....I know you could be buying someone else's problem but if you do your research massive savings could be made.

In a non scooter related matter Wifey just bought a 2008 ex demo Prius for $10,000 off the RRP. It only has 8000 km on it and it's the colour she wanted. You can't argue with $10,000 big ones.

Ain't it great that we are all different! I love looking at new scooters, but I'm ADDICTED to Craigslist and the like, shopping for used scooters. I'll likely never get a new one, but for sure I'll eventually get a "newer" one (like a 200, I'm just sayin'). I love saving $ and paying with cash -- it's one sure-fire way to fight the "owe-more-than-it's-worth" blues when you ride off the lot.

I'm the same way with computers - always buying the obsolete model to save the odd thousand bucks.

Don't get the wrong idea about me though - I prefer my beer and food brand new and unused!

Ronin, You are my kinda guy. I bought both my scooters on Craigslist. The Vespa LX 150 was a '06 with only 580 miles on it. Got it last November for $2,700. It had a couple of scratches on it.

Of course I dropped it in April so those little scratches don't mean near as much now.

The Piaggio was an '04 with less than 1,000 miles on it. Got it for a song too.

Just got done buying an Apple 17" flat screen iMac G5 for $100 last night. He sold it for parts but I can fix the logic board for very little money and it'll be like new.

Yeh gotta love Craigslist. Now if I could just get someone to make me an offer on my Volusia.
