Apart from the obvious bodges from some far flung distant place and the farm yard find on Ebay..... what Scooter or Vespa wouldn't you ride?

Why I ask is that the GT 200 is the first "heavy weight" scooter I have owned, everything else I've sat on that is lighter has felt like I was gonna take a tumble....

A pink one. Get enough grief on the roads round these parts on a beat-up black one.

In fairness, though, I haven't tried much of a variety so don't have much to go on. Everything I've tried has been fun so there are none I'd say never to yet.

I wouldn't own a GTS 250 again - not after having had a 300

I don't care for the GTV because of the light

But I would buy a Vespa knock off for the right price if it was mechanically sound

It's probably a minority view,
but I would never ride anything that might be mistaken for a museum piece

I ride my scooter mainly as transportation, instead of using a car

It would make me crazy
to worry about a valuable/meticulously-restored scooter getting damaged

The scooter that I wouldn't ride hasn't yet been invented, although I'm always looking and hoping!

My dear wife doesn't enjoy my near-constant perusal of scoot.net and nationwide Craigslist scooters for sale. I always tell her that you can never tell when I might need a new scooter... it kinda keeps her sharp, if you know what I mean.

Agreed!

However, I did spend my first year of riding on a chinese scoot, a 125cc Motofino. The main reason I bought the chinese scoot is because I figured that If I was going to wreck it, at least it wasn't a nice scooter.

I've had my BV250 for the past 3 years and haven't touched the chinese scoot since I got the BV.

I couldn't ride the chinese scoot if I wanted to anyhow, since it has some issue with the intake.... The factory sent me a replacement manifold thing that I installed.... didn't help one bit. As soon as that scoot comes to a stop it stalls. None of the local shops will work on it. POS

I would never own a Lambretta or any of the BVs (or any maxi scoot with wheels bigger than 12").

I don;t think there is a scooter I wouldn't ride. I like maxi scooters and big wheeled scooters, classic museum scooters. There are a lot of scooters I would not buy but I can't think of one I wouldn't ride at least once.

Anything that looks like some sort of transformer ... that isn't actually a transformer! I can't put into words just how much I dislike this look. Unfortunately, UBER UGLY seems to have become a pervasive scooter design element these days!

This implies that a motorcycle is arbitrarily superior to a large wheel maxi scooter, but a 650 Burgman, for example, is a better 'motorcycle' than many motorcycles are and can compete head-to-head with them in most categories, so there is often little of true substance to gain by buying the motorcycle over the big-wheel scooter.

In the end, it's a matter of preference I suppose, but it would make just as much sense to say 'You might as well just buy a maxi-scooter as a motorcycle'.

PS. This has no relevance to the fact that I was trying to sell my Burgman to buy a .............................motorcycle.

I just miss shifting a howling four cylinder engine that goes like hell, that's a different deal.

Actually the Grand Dink is sold in the USA (only in the 250cc version) under the name Grand Vista.

I wouldn't ride on any scooter if my feet couldn't touch the ground.

I know that a lot of people like them. You don´t see many over here. But I just find them ugly...Really, really ugly. But the Honda Ruckus just looks like a pocket version humvee. They're probably fun to ride and all...But I just can't get past the looks. Knowing my fellow countrymen, they will probably get popular here once people start using scooters more. Anything that is used to get you to the bakery and back but looks as if it's made to climb mountains while under bazooka-fire, seems to catch on.

I felt the same, but Ive been riding with them and they have a lot of cool aftermarket tricks, one guy has put a 2stroke engine in his and is the fastest around.

No 'shame' required nor expected.

Alas, no Vespas in my garage though, just a couple of them there gigantic, fast, reliable, comfortable, quiet, economical, parts available, technicians local, well-engineered, grocery-getting, continent-crossing, Japanese recycled plastic bag things.
