i was thinking of lining the underside (engine side) of the bucket with some of the heat shielding material like for car hoods and such. Any ideas, comments, or warnings?

Re: pet carrier
1. Why are you interested in doing this?
2. Make sure there is clearance for this under the carrier. Including clearance for airflow on the uppermost pieces, which likely depend on some heat loss due to radiation and airflow. 3. I don't have the heart to tell the first responder about the "pet carrier". trowel and cuffs wrote: i was thinking of lining the underside (engine side) of the bucket with some of the heat shielding material like for car hoods and such. I plan on installing one of my mobile ham radios inside of the pet carrier. The radio gets extremely hot itself, especially while transmitting. I fear that even more heat may damage the radio. I'm not sure how hot it gets inside of the pet carrier, but I do know it's a bad idea to go buy cheese and ride 30miles home with it in there. |

A heat barrier would be helpful, but I just use plenty of ice. Stays cooler longer than the beer lasts!
In the fall I use it as a crock pot for chili. ![]() |

Would you actually operate while riding? Headset maybe? Just wondering. I hadn't thought seriously about a radio on my LX. My rides are usually pretty short and I wouldn't have much need for a radio. I was too lazy to search for it and tag a link on here, but there is a product you can find on dirt bike sites made now which is a self adhesive heat shield, looks similar to fancy tin foil. It is used on the underside of the plastic gas tanks to keep the engine from heating up the fuel. It you are looking for a cooler "pet carrier" that might do the trick.

There are other options
I once created a forum topic about pet carriers...
I was pilloried mercilessly (especially by the brits). Long story short. There are pet options out there. Lots of them look like the iron maiden and will be strapped to the rear rack. Your milk crate (and dog) is cute but my dog is just a chaser. Not to be trusted off leash! Search the history to find some good manufacturers. Peace |

Here is another option that looks safe.
At Amerivespa yesterday this gentleman rode up with the dog in a side sling - I asked him to pose for a photo. Turns out this setup is for two scooter dogs. I know he is an MV'er so if he sees this post and gives me permission later I will post the entire photo. ![]() |

Yeah, it's kind of hard to get a thread back on track once the dogs have entered the scene. Who can resist a cute dog?

He is too big to fit under there, but that doesn't stop him from trying! I have never smacked him because he was a rescue dog and was very badly abused before I got him. However, I used to yell at him when he dug up the garden. Now I don't bother doing anything because he punishes himself more severely than I ever did. He will lie with his head and part of his shoulders under the bed for hours until I tell him it's OK to come out. Makes you wonder why he does it in the first place? He's mine and I love him but ... |

CHIP CARRIER
Great for keeping you fish and chips(fries)warm!!On a few rallys years ago i used the pet carrier filled with water from a river to get washed in,and with a plastic bag in it ... a port-o-potty!!! lol turned over makes a great camp fire seat. Also if you cook bacon and sausages and wrap in tin foil place in bottom of carrier and i put my waterproofs on top by the time you ride 15mls they are perfect munch on stops

Every time I see a dog on a scooter it pisses me off. People put helmets on their heads, toss on a padded jacket and yet think it ok an cute to put an unprotected dog on a moving scooter. It's not cute, if you actually cared for you dog you wouldn't fucking do it!
Who's dog has to die before people actually take this serious? Won't be my James, I'd never put him in that position. |

I doubt you would gain anything by sticking heat sheild on the bottom of the under seat storage box. Heat would get into it through the sides, I reckon you could insulate it but likely would have to loose space inside. I can fit one of those soft coolers inside mine and I am sure that would help for your food but would get in the way of your helmet.( I wonder why they have to tell you not to put your pet in a microwave or under your seat) what is that about???

I love pets. We have three cats. Nuff said. I also am interested in a cooling solution to the pet carrier and find it a pain in the butt to have to read through all the OT posts here to find the real content.
Open a new pet thread and have at it, and leave this cool, please. |

NOTE: The heat can be used to your advantage.
The boyfriend and I bought some burritos this weekend on our way to SJB with the AmeriVespa crew. I don't think any of us knew how hot that seat carrier gets until we threw our burritos under the seat. Well we'd be riding for over an hour or two at this point and when we got to SJB a short time later to eat the burritos they were pretty dang hot. Thank goodness we kept our sodas in the top cases and away from the seat. |

It's a positive side-effect. Let's not be negative. So what if it's too hot to carry a (small) pet in the (airtight) space under the seat...love the fact that the food stays hot. Only tested up to half an hour, but I love the fact my MuckMuffin is still steaming hot by the time I get to work. Drinks are carried outside the pet carrier, as would any pets, if we had any
Shame you can't get a pizza under there but everything else fits 8) |
