I am sure someone with better tech knowledge could explain it in detail but I believe the short answer is yes.

The old rule of thumb tuning carbs was if you had popping on a closed/trailing throttle it meant a lean mix. This would make sense with the factory injection since everything is set up lean to meet emission standards.

There is probably a thread in the tech section about it.
