My two favorite things, outside of really important things like wife and kids, are my dog (a boxer) and my scooter. However, the two don't seem to get along. The dog routinely chases me down the driveway as I drive the scooter. I always thought this was harmless and kind of fun. He never leaves the property, no risk from cars, etc... However, on July 4th, doggie got a running start and jumped onto the side of my parked LX150, knocking her over, causing minor dents and scratches to the cowl, as well as damaging the throttle grip. The throttle now sticks, and does not spring back. The dog is fine, and was quite pleased with himself.
I was staggered when the scoot dealer told me that relatively modest cowl damage can result in a bike being totalled. Don't have a repair estimate yet, but I would presume that minor dents to the cowl can be repaired. Anyone have any experience with cowl repairs? Also, anyone have thoughts as to whether rear crash bars would likely prevent such damage? Seems like the crash bars might still allow dents/scratching on a tipped bike, but just higher up on the cowl.
I know photos are a must on such a forum. I have no photos of the the scoot damage, but do have a picture of the offending dog, chasing his little buddy, a schoodle.
