Excellent stuff Mod! I know what I'm listening to for the next 47 min.
It's great to listen to Gimme Gimme Gimme on Everything Went Black.. there's 3 versions on the album.. it's cool to hear the progression... especially in Rollins' vocal. 00:00, then at 13:05 then again at 43:00 |

Wow Black Flag
I used to sing in a punk band back in 1982. We were short lived(although one member went on to some small success on the west coast), but the highlight of our career was opening for Black Flag and/or Minor Threat in Orlando Florida.
We were called ..wait for it.... The Illbred Youth. Later morphed into....Noise for the Needy, Then.... Rose Shadows. Great fun, I used to have hair back then ! Sir Paul. |

Opened for many many cool ass bands - Descendents, SNFU, Circle Jerks, 7 seconds. Headlined some big crazy shows too I was a wee 14 or 15 years old. That was the rub... we weren't that good, but we were so young we were a bit of a novelty in the Houston HC scene. Good memories. Mellow Cats at the Cabaret Voltaire circa 85. Fuck I am old....

Hi Vader
Hey Vader,
Actually we did record an album (as Rose Shadows) which was sort of an accumulation of the better stuff from all three iterations of the band. Yes it was an album, on actual vinyl no less. I had 2 or 3 copies of the album for a few years, but in the 2 transatlantic moves and several moves around America over the years, they seem to have slipped away (like my youth and my hair). Orlando Florida in the early eighties was no place to be a punk band, there was a very small core of people into that music back then. Orlando was basically a town divided into the WDIZ album rock crowd...."freebird"....and the country and western crowd... I guess we were their "friends in low places" . It was so difficult for us to get venues that, on the occasion of the Black Flag/Minor Threat visit, we had to put together our own stage in the back lot of a guitar shop on Colonial Drive near the Orange County Fairgrounds. All the best Vader, Sir Paul. |

Birdsnest's a rock star.
Hi Bird
Great pic Birdsnest. Our bass player would have been so jealous of you getting to open for The Circle Jerks and the Descendents. Good for you also getting to be on stage and such at an early age. What a kick eh! All the best, Sir Paul. |

That rules Paul.. and Mr. Nest!... Good memories.. my 1st shows were in '83 so I'm a crusty old punk too I guess. I have a box in the garage w/ all my show fliers... of course! Haaa We used to see shows at Fender's Ballroom in Longbeach, the Olympic Auditorium in LA, and Wabash Hall in SD.. (wabash was a shithold of a room, and calling it a "Hall" was a bit much.. it was more like a large bathroom!
Too bad about the vinyl Paul.. I know how that goes though.. I had almost all of my records (many that I got in London when I went with a radio station KROQ when I was 15... Hard to get stuff) were ruined... they were in a storage space for the complex me and roommate were living in, and the roof leaked and no one knew.. so they were just sitting in water for several years! sad. Well it's all memories now! I'm stoked I have those memories though! * Keith Clark (the longest running drummer for the Circle Jerks) was my accountant and did my taxes for a several years back in the day! |

I forgot about them!!!
Hi Bird
Hahahaha the Dead Kennedys, seemed like everyone had the DK symbol etched on their jeans or jacket back then. Sorry to say I was never a big fan of "california thrash punk or surf punk" as it was labelled back then. Being a recent (in 1981) transplant from England back then, I was (I am ashamed to admit) a bit of a music snob and looked down on American punk bands. I probably got over myself later on in the eighties, of course by then punk had been dead a long time. Still an "orgasm addict" though. Sir Paul |

You gotta look after the old people. Just doing my bit
Infact when the snow came down quite bad 2 weeks ago in the West Midlands, I called my other Custody Officer (who was based at another station for the day) 14 times in one shift to make sure he was OK. He is getting on a bit. |
