Thanks to the guys for the Triffids and Panics postings etc from Perth. I miss my home town. Must get back there. Just saw the Blackeyed Susans playing here the other weekend which was brilliant. A triffids spin-off I guess. The panics recorded Wide Open Road as well didn't they?
Perth has always been spoilt with home grown stuff. With thanks to Mr Salmon for this track. Brett Rixon on drums (his sister was Penthouse Playmate of the year back in the day, just in case you care). |

Yup, all three Perth. Not sure where the stems stuff was shot. I would have guessed freo as Dom was from that area, but who knows. All three from Perth though. Chads tree had the snarski brothers and rob ended up in Black-eyed Susans with mccombe and half of the rest of the triffids. The 80s Perth influence. Just saw the stems this year in the hoodoo gurus dig it up festival.

I'd never heard of Polvo, great though, and from Chapel Hill. I'll watch out for them for sure. Will be there next week. Thanks for the heads up.

I had no idea the Scientists got on Countdown! Nice clip. James Baker on drums back then too. It must have been soon after that he joined up with Faulkner for the Hoodoo Gurus. We were running through some old 45's the other day from Australia. Remember this one? from Adelaide I seem to recall, but I could just be making shit up with my memory these days.

Haha Alan. I know Billy the bass player really well. He'll get a kick out of knowing he's been talked about on a Vespa forum.

I have always said that bass players are the most important members. They can translate between the filth of the drummer and the hedonistic guitarists! That was my story anyway. Do pass this on to Billy! I am sure it will be the highlight if his career, knowing a bunch of vintage vespa lovers still play the eastern dark stuff on vinyl!

No-one anyone has heard of! We did the indie Perth guitar bit in a couple of different incarnations during the 80's, but got to play with folks like Kim salmon, the bamboos and kryptonics etc. We used to play a lot of gigs with a band called the palisades who we knew well back then.

Mate that's really cool. Great Power Pop. Right up my alley. Definitely has that Perth sound. I know Ian from the Kryptonics. I was in a band called The Pyramidiacs and we played a few times with Challenger 7 when he moved to Sydney. He and Rusty from You am I put out one of our records on their label. I probably know a few more people you do from the scene.

Your band must have had some good sounds if Ian and Rusty put it out. what band was that? I'll have to have a listen if there is a link???
We always wanted to be the Dentists from Medway when we had the Earnest Groovers going, but never quite nailed it. Great time though I'd presume we would know a couple of similar folk. Did you know a female keyboard player called Sandra....ummmm....something or other from Perth. I thought she scampered across the desert to Sydney at some point after I moved to Melbourne. She had been in a band from Perth called the Stolen Picassos. Didn't Ian Freeman's band do the Sydney scene for a while? Or was that Melbourne? Trying to remember their name...Ian was the lead singer of the Palisades and in fact an old Scooter / Mod guy from Perth. What the @#$!@#$ was his band called? Found it! Header! Put up a link Bobo, would love to hear the sound. |

We were called The Pyramidiacs. Never really reached any great heights. Played a lot around inner Sydney. The odd trip to Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra. We did okay in Spain. We pretty much gave up on playing here and recorded an album a year for a Spanish label and toured there on the back of it. Had a shitload of fun. Played a few shows in France and at the International Pop Overthrow festival in L.A. one year. I met the wife in Spain and quit the band to go live over there for a couple of years. Billy from The Eastern Dark took my spot. Mick the drummer lives in Melbourne. He owns Get Hip records and still plays in a few bands. Here's a link.

Very nice bobo, really liked it and am surprised I missed it first time around. I can see the similarity in the tastes without a doubt! I'll have to find myself the vinyl versions to add to the archives.
Funny how Spain has such a great garage scene. Italy too I guess. Oh, and Sweden. Maybe spain isn't quite sooo special, but they do seem to have a greats set of festivals. Last time I caught up with the Gaolers they had just done the French and Spanish festival circuit I think. They were knackered by the time they got to Dublin, fair play though, they played a great set. Where about in Spain did you move to? got a UK mate living in Madrid and loving it and his Spanish family. Nice lifestyle. As long as I can order coffee and beer, all is good. |

I was in Madrid. I loved it but the work situation was shit and I really missed the beach. It's a great rock'n'roll town. When I lived there in the 90s it was like Australia in the eighties. Everyone was into bands. They love Aussie bands. It was really surprising. Still get back every few years to visit the wife's family. Our records are pretty hard to find these days. "Stuff'N'Junk" is the one Ian and Rusty put out. It's a double CD compilation of all our stuff. Might still be able to find a copy. Mick might have it in Get Hip or I could just burn you a copy if you like.

Nice one josh. First time I had seen the video for that song. When I was a teenager, I went to the Rock n' Roll Hall of fame. Tons of Doors stuff. Jim's varsity swim team jacket and report cards. There was also a bunch of dumb things not so Rock n' Roll like Brittany Spears costumes though. Not to mention an 2 floor exhibit of dreaded U2 stuff. Barf! All in all, if you ever come to the states, you should check it out. Located in Cleveland, Ohio.
