Yes Divine was taken too early but also lived a pretty insane lifestyle . We lost a lot of performers back in that era very young.

Girl Garage
Review by Jim Testa of JerseyBeat:
"I've been told the members of Chiba Neko remain anonymous because of their day jobs, so while I can't tell you much, I can report that they're from somewhere in NJ, the lead singer's name is Jenny, and while they call themselves "lo-fi" and "garage-rock," I'd say they're perfectly Hi-Fi (in the 60's sense of the term) and draw much of their inspiration from the female teen idols of the Fifties and Sixties, from Lesley Gore and Nancy Sinatra to the Shangri-La's . Lots of reverb on Jenny's inviting, kittenish vocals, with analog warmth on the guitar and organ tones". |

This has been my Spotify playlist out in the garage lately. Lots of Third Wave Ska mixed with punk, but also everything from Western Swing to New Wave and Austrian Hellbilly.

I'm looking through the thread for some new ideas. Usually I just listen to the same music I've been listening to since I was a teenager, with some variations.
During the pandemic, for some reason, I've really been enjoying Bob Dylan's demo of "When I Paint My Masterpiece" on Another Self Portrait. If someone could just explain to me the line "Newspaperman eating candy, had to be held down by a big police" I would appreciate it. I've been listening to Suzanne Vega's album of Love Songs. I have an album of Maria Callas singing famous arias I've been listening to on the old turntable, along with some old Lou Reed and Velvet Underground albums. At work, I've been switching around streaming Dave Brubeck and Charles Mingus for jazz. I've been experimenting a little with Paul Weller's various projects. I've owned a copy of The Jam's "All Mod Cons," and I like that. I have The Style Council playing in the background right now - it seems good as background music. That's leading me in to rethinking some of the other music that was popular in my youth, that I didn't really like much at the time - Dexy's Midnight Runners for instance, or David Bowie. I just don't seem to really find music I love in my mid-fifties like I did in my teens, when I was rebelling against the mid-eighties pop by listening to the Rolling Stones, Muddy Waters, and the Beatles. Maybe that's the way of things. |

Was going to drop this in the "Lyrics" thread, because Adam Duritz is a lyrical magician, but I thought I'd drop it here. Lyrics aside, this is my favorite country song ever.
And I am waiting for the telephone to tell me I'm alive Well I heard you let somebody get their fingers into you It's getting cold in California I guess I'll be leaving soon Daylight fading Come and waste another year All the anger and the eloquence are bleeding into fear Moonlight creeping around the corners of our lawn When we see the early signs that daylight's fading We leave just before it's gone She said "Everybody loves you, " She says, "Everybody cares" But all the things I keep inside myself They vanish in the air If you tell me that you'll wait for me I'll say I won't be here I want to say goodbye to you Goodbye to all my friends Goodbye to everyone I know Daylight fading Come and waste another year All the anger and the eloquence are bleeding into fear Moonlight creeping around the corners of our lawn When we see the early signs that daylight's fading We leave just before it's gone |

I saw Kate open for Ben Folds in Hershey and became an instant fan.

She has a similar sound to Butterfly Boucher, whom I saw open for Ben Folds more than once in about that same era, back before he got bored with playing his stuff for fans and started doing all sorts of concept tours.

Went to the Punk Rawk Show last night with my daughter, of all people. She's way cooler than I am, but she went because she likes pretty much all music.
We saw The Bombpops and Hawthorne Heights, but had to roll out because she was double-booked, so we missed Senses Fail and Bayside. It was still a hell of a good time. First concert I've been to since I-don't-know-how-long. Of course, my whole body hurts today between being out in the workshop all day, then standing on cement for a couple of hours, but it was totally worth it. ![]() Selfie!

"Oh, Vangelis!" I thought. "I haven't listened to any of that in years!"
(I was always a big fan of the Blade Runner soundtrack) So I fired it up to give it a listen, but by the time I woke up, it was over. |

I'm convinced I have some hearing damage from a Stranglers concert in the 80's. It was a small venue and I was right in front of a massive amp. |

I have plenty of hearing damage from small arms, loud music, motors, and an adult ear infection that was, according to the doctor who treated me, the worst he'd ever seen in an adult. It burst my eardrum, left me completely deaf in my left ear for months, and I've never fully recovered. |
