Years ago I bought an old Gerard turntable from Goodwill for pennies, fixed it up and the first song I played on it was "Tired of Waiting for You". I have video of it somewhere.

Diverging a bit from my usual playlist. I'm hit-or-miss on Postmodern Jukebox, but they have a lot of stuff that definitely kills it, and this is one of them.

Right now, Horses / Patti Smith, very loud and accompanied by beer from the local brewery (Rebellion). As the Scots would say, you cannae go wrong wi that.

It's not that they don't make them, it's just that you (we) don't listen to them...

LOL! I watched about half of the TS video. Not sure if that was supposed to be an example of modern rock star or modern not-rock star.

Don't get me wrong ... I don't NOT like Taylor. I have a lot of respect for her marketing and her brand. She is a superstar, to be sure, but I'd never call her a rock star. But she's found a formula that works.

Cat Steven's "The Wind"

Just discovered this poignantly beautiful melody this summer. Not sure what all of the lyrics mean, but am playing it over and over. Love the simplistic 70's vibe. Riding around on Blue, just "listening to the wind of my soul"….

Recently discovered Slow Pulp, from my hometown of Madison. I've always dug shoe gaze bands with female lead singers. And also gotten into an Aussie girl-power punkish band, Camp Cope. Their politics aren't necessarily mine, but they have a great bassist.

Slow Pulp does more for me than Camp Cope, but I'll take Wet Leg over either of them. I appreciate the suggestion, though. It's hard to find new music, which is ironic given that there's more of it out there than ever.

I think I just like my tunes a little more up-tempo. I was never a fan of shoe gaze, so this should come as a surprise to no one.

My daughter was genuinely surprised and impressed when Chaise Lounge started up on my workshop playlist, so I'm not totally un-cool...for better or worse.

So let's pause for a moment and get the Big D.

Not quite shoegaze, but some Tigers Jaw might also be a good fit with your tastes, Yackee. Another band that impressed my daughter when it showed up in my playlist, even if I'd first heard it hanging out with her.

They played at a venue around the corner from my house last summer. She and some friends went to see them and saw a group of people walking down the street the venue is on.
One of my daughter's friends pointed at them as they drove by said, "I'll bet they're on their way to the Tiger's Jaw show," and she was right--it was the band!

Good stuff in any case.

That's a major accomplishment, getting your kids to think you have taste in music. My daughter usually listens to super-ghetto rap, but we had a bonding experience driving her back to college, stopping in Charleston WV while blasting Tyler Childress's Charleston Girl. And she credits me for introducing her to the Minneapolis rap group Atmosphere, and particularly their fantastic song "summertime". Now, does she understand how incredible Modest Mouse is? No, she's not willing to give me that one. Or Willie Nelson? Maybe...

I started her out right on a lot of Punk, Pop-Punk, Horrorbilly, and Third Wave Ska from a very early age and it seems to have done the job. Being very into music, though, her tastes are incredibly eclectic and I have to get pretty deep into the back catalog to find something she hasn't heard.

Early favorite, still good today.
More recently, though, I was amazed that I introduced her to Insane Clown Posse like a month or six weeks ago when I made a Juggalo reference and then had to explain it, which led to trying to explain ICP, Faygo, and everything that goes with it. Finally, I just pointed her to the Wikipedia page and an early Gathering of the Juggalos documentary and next time we were in her car, they showed up in her playlist.

Never been into shoegaze much, but I have a personal connection with Lovesliescrushing. Melissa was engaged to a good friend who was also my roommate at the time, along with her brother, Matt.

The wedding never happened. Sean, Matt and I have remained friends. I bumped into Melissa last fall at the grocery store. She is an incredibly talented and beautiful woman.
