A couple things... I saw them live in the mid to late 80's... and early 90's, and then I completely ignored them for the last 20 to25 years. I just felt their songwriting never equaled the level it did when Bill Berry was drumming, singing, and helping write.

A friend sent me this video and said, " you probably won't, but you probably should watch (Read: listen) to this." he was 100% correct.

Other stuff:

1. Weird set list order... they were recording for a "live" compilation record.
2. I hate the song Everybody Hurts at about 9:00 minutes in, but the vocal was so fucking strong I stopped what I was doing and watched the whole thing. Just gobsmackingly amazing vocal.
3. Begin the begin and Fall on Me are next also level.
4. Radio Free Europe at the close all punked up with distorted guitar (which I never, ever saw them play live) was just fantastic... forgotten words and all.

If you are or were at one time a fan, find an hour and give it a go. You wont regret it.

Just found out these guys are playing with Hot Water Music and Off With Their Heads here in May and the tickets go on sale on Friday. Going to take my son with me, I'm kinda scared though, he's going to learn a lot about me that night…

Ordered already, thanks for the reminder! I would have waited and forgotten then been screwed. I have ear muffs for him, but these may work better. Either way he'll not have to go through what I went through, didn't start wearing ear plugs till I was in my 30's. BIG regret there.

"Pop, Atomic Bomb, Songs of Innocence - Emily could have stopped it all if she'd just come out and said she didn't like them." DeCastro and his team tracked the spread of U2's popularity from there, and their findings were shocking: not a single person ever actually liked U2. Even people described as "hardcore fans" only ever tolerated U2's music, according to the research team. "It's like, everyone just kinda went, 'OK, there's guitars, and drums, and that guy's singing, so it must be super good and popular I guess?'"

The groundbreaking research indicates that humanity could have been saved from "With or Without You," "Beautiful Day," and "Angel of Harlem," if people just had the courage to stand up and say they don't like U2.

Similar research is being conducted on the popularity of Encanto.

So, the whole modular synth thing has tickled some areas of my brain that have needed tickling for a long time.

I built this patch with miRack on my MacBook Pro. It's just a drone, but on the big speakers in the basement it's phenomenally huge.

Ha!!! I guess I'm an outlier... I liked U2 up until Rattle and Hum. That record was unforgivable ego stroking and just terribly bad song writing. Barf.

Before that... I saw them on the Unforgettable Fire tour and the Joshua Tree tour. I did kinda know then (I was like 13 and 15.) that Bono was a boner, cornball...easy to overlook at that age, but even with all the post 1988 garbage they put out, the dude puts his money were his mouth is and I can respect that.

Not really. He puts his money where it makes him the most money, he just does it in very brand-conscious ways. Like he didn't do any of that Red crap because he cared, he did it because he made like $200 MILLION dollars off it or something crazy like that.

If you look at all his altruism, it always has an insane ROI, none of which gets plowed back into the causes he claims to care so much about.

I am not a bono apologist but I saw in a NYT Mag or Atlantic mag that Red had donated something like 150 or 175 million to charities and that was a few years back. Dudes a capitalist...meh. Good for him, if you remove that terrible shit he injected into my itunes from the ledger he has helped more folks than he's hurt by a solid margin. (Regardless, of how smarmy he comes across with those stupid sunglasses.)
