James was my neighbor in New Orleans, and my wife and him (are) were in a band together. He's a damn good guy and loads of fun.
The Red Rockers just played a show together for the first time in 30 years at Tipitinas a few weeks ago.

Seamus, for some reason while listening to Big Country I can't help but think of Men At Work too. My fingers aren't so computer literate or else I would have linked "Down Under" or "Who Can It Be Now". Wonder if SteelBytes likes those guys being in the same neighborhood and all.🤔

So, you unwittingly triggered an existential crisis by mentioning Men at Work. I was going to tell the story of when I first heard it. I was in middle school. Wood shop class, to be exact. Our teacher had a radio playing during class when we were working on our projects. "Overkill" was in heavy rotation at the time and I absolutely loved it then as I do now. Any time I hear it I am transported back to 7th grade and I can smell the wood and I get that 13 year old everything is new feeling again ... except ...

Overkill came out in March of '83. I just looked it up. By then I was 14 and in 8th grade. I couldn't have heard it on the radio in my 7th grade wood shop class.

Dude, I kid you not, I broke out the graph paper and a pencil and plotted months and years from my birth to graduation. I charted backward from graduation in May of 1987 to the day I started kindergarten in September of 1974. In March of 1983 I was just about to turn 14 and in the last half of 8th grade. The ONLY thing I can figure is I'm mistaken about which year I had that particular wood shop class, even though I remember Rob Banhagel being in that same class, but he couldn't have been because he was a year ahead of me and that would have made him a freshman at the high school by then.

The other explanation is those memories have all been implanted by a secret government agency and someone forgot to carry the 1. And that leaves me plugged into machines that are keeping my body alive and none of this is real and now I have to go to my parents and dig out my school transcripts so I can know for sure. But if they read this and get to them first they can easily change them to match whatever information they want me to believe is real.

It really has been one of those days.

Found this at a thrift store just a couple of weeks ago.

Well I have a lower budget "Realistic" changer bought new in something like 1969, actually it's a BSR unit badged as "Realistic"! Also have a "Realistic" SCT-21 cassette deck that actually still works, it came with my second wife, two for one deal that included a OptimuscCD-6120 changer, had to replace belt in that a few years back.

I had an old Optimus amplifier for years. Weren't they actually Pioneer branded for Radio Shack?

Loved that amp. Last of an era that actually had a phono input.

I have a pair of those little Minimus 7 speakers with the metal housing, along with a pair of larger drivers that can deliver deeper bass. I love Radio Shack's stuff.
