Wow. That brings me back. I took a decade long deep dive into PC building and gaming after playing the first Myst on a friend's computer. It culminated in building a 737 flight sim cockpit in my basement.

I am terrible at logic and puzzles, but I spent a lot of time just wandering around in the Myst world. The artistry of Myst was how immersive and atmospheric it was even without 3d graphics rendering.

1st song on this lp features a sampled drum track throughout from the late Fela Kuti drummer Tony Allen. I love this band unconditionally.

I need to get a turntable so I can show off some colored vinyl.

Not that you phrased it that way, but I overheard 2 millenials at work today calling records vinyls and complaining about having to get up to flip them and I'm proud to tell you that I didn't say anything or murder either of them where they stood.

Interest in modular synthesizers left a trail of breadcrumbs to Lilly's YouTube channel. She's the music nerd I always wanted to be. Her album "Endless Nights" on Bandcamp has been regularly streamed on my computer lately.

You and Seamus are giving me the bug to get some kind of record player. I have a balalaika and a buddy gave me this. Haven't been able to here it yet.

10 years ago an old friend scored that turntable for me at a yard sale for $5. I put on new hinges & new feet. I've replaced the stylus more recently but I've only got about 50 bucks into that thing total and it's a dependable direct-drive tank.

So, taking my son to work this morning this came up in my randomizer in the car. One of my favorite tunes from one of my favorite bands. And it's winter. And I know my son is going with his Mom this weekend, which I always dread. And when the line, "I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself to hold on to these moments as they pass" hit, I looked at my son, who just turned 28, and had to stop singing.

Digging through a couple hundred CDs in a drawer I came across this gem. Sadly, I only recognized two songs on it (#11 & #13). I know Jewel, of course, and I remember Dragmules (might have one of their CDs) and Seven Mary Three, but there might be some good stuff here I've just overlooked.

Dude, there is soooooo much good stuff on here. I'm at #13 now. I remember the Edwin McCain tune. Much better than 2.5. No idea why "Math" got 4, other than for laugh factor. It's trippy. Walt Mink should be a solid 5 out of 4. I remember the Jewel song. It's fantastic. The Smile tune is one of my favorites.

But, good lord, what good stuff. Sadly, in 1995, a lot of this was lost in the wash. But the quality of the music is astounding. I think we've lost a lot of that. Not all, but a lot.

Sadly that's not even CIV's best song. That first record was a gem, second one not so much.
