Last night on the way home from work my son requested this.

I know why you don't like Ike but I wanna mention that he is credited with having generated the 1st rock & roll single ever. Rocket 88. Doesn't excuse beating Tina Turner, who was and is magnificent. Hurting her is unforgivable. But 1st rock & roll single.

So, I'm a big Pumpkins fan. I'm no drummer, but from the time I first heard "Drown" I knew Jimmy Chamberlin's sound was something special. It always upset me SP didn't get the critical credit for their musicianship often enough. I have given people SP CDs and said, "Listen to the drummer".

That said, this was a brilliant interview with one of the better drummers of the era and a complete drum nerd-gearhead.

Longish, but you can put it on in the background and just listen. Great insight into the band's sound and the origins of that sound.

True, he was great with the music part. If I refused to listen to music based on the person and their deeds, lots of music wouldn't be heard and appreciated. Since I started playing guitar I've been super focused on the instruments not the lyrics anymore.

Yeah I'm a big fan of covers that sound like the band playing the cover rather than sounding just like the original.

So good to be able to play this again

I woke up Sunday with the beginning of a song going through my head. I couldn't remember what it was or who sang it, so I looked it up. Apparently it was "Self Control" by Laura Braningan. I never liked the song, hadn't heard it in I don't know how long, so I watched the freaky video. I remembered it like a fever dream. So I looked up where she is now and found out she died of a brain aneurysm in 2004. Not only is that one of my greatest fears, I have no idea what to do with this new (to me) information.

Then I got to thinking, "Who was Melissa Manchester?" because I had apparently gotten them mixed up in my head. And looking her up I remembered the episode of The Muppet Show where she guest starred. It was a good episode and she was very talented. She's still around.

So, that was my morning rabbit hole.

Guided By Voices - Isolation Drills

I guess I am kind of the odd man out here. B.B. King, Muddy waters, Stevie Ray Vaughan - just Blues tunes. It's comforting and slows me down where I'm at at the moment.....Maybe some Miles Davis too.
