I can't believe I've never posted this one before.
I remember when this song / video came out I was totally captivated by both. The song because it's brilliant and the video because it was 1987 and I was 18.
I tell you, being 18 in 1987 was like hitting some cosmic bullseye. There's a movie - "Midnight in Paris" that explores finding some mystical golden age, but I honestly think I had it. The '80s was the cusp of everything. We saw MTV, computers, CDs ... we literally watched the birth of the digital age. It was a great mix of excess and innocence. And I was a teenager, there to see it all.
It was like Jesus Jones song, "Right here, Right Now". We were watching the world wake up from history. The tail end of the Cold War and soon after the Soviet Union. So. Much. Happened. Plus we had great music.
Anyway ... New Order. Great stuff. Everything they ever did just had this pervasive sadness ... shattered remnants of Joy Division. Even in a poppy tune like "True Faith".
Here I go down the rabbit hole. Think it's time for some Joy Division. Again. But don't take MY word for it. Take Henry Rollins' word.
