Well... I was having some engine issues. Bogging out/stalling after getting the engine warm. P was idling fine, but by the time you got to third gear, anytime you stopped it'd stall.

Have good spark.
Clutch and clutch cable seem good.

So, I drained the gear box oil and... and you could smell petrol in there.

Now, I am a novice wrencher, but not a moron (completely). I can rebuild a carb, cables, do minor electrical repairs. I just dropped the fork for some front end work...

Anyway, as I sat there occasionally sniffing at the gear box oil like a rehabilitated paint huffer on the brink, I thought; "Screw it. I can drop the bastard and do the rebuild myself." Figure the only way I'm gonna learn is to bloody my knuckles.

So, should I give it a go mobsters? Or am I kidding myself?

Go for it. I completely gutted and rebuilt my engine, I learned a lot on the way. I was (am) certainly a novice.

Cracking the cases and replacing the seals, bearings, shifting cross and other worn parts not only gives you a solid engine for years to come, but doing it yourself also helps you understand how the scooter works. This knowledge will help you in the future as your scoot needs adjusting or repairs, because you'll know better where a problem is likely to be coming from.

Read the Haynes manual, become familiar with the tech help websites, and if at all possible, find a friend locally who can help you with questions, because they will arise, and it's really helpful to have someone nearby who can help you out.

Personally, i hate the haynes manual.

I just use exploded diagrams and www.vespamaintenance.com and www.scooterhelp.com

If you have any questions, just take pictures and post them up here to ask. Even something like a 20 second youtube video is a good way to ask a question.

A little Godfather for inspiration (along with a sixer of cold PBR). I'm off to the garage:

"Fella's I'm ready to get up and do my thing. I wanna get into it man, you know? Like a, like a Sex Machine man. Movin'. Doin' it ya know?

Can I count it off?

1, 2, 3, 4."
