Hi there!

Recently i've bought myself an LML 125 after previously owning an Aprilia RS125. I love the scoot, it looks cool and is really well built. Much more relaxing to get around on than the RS. However, it's definetly lacking in the speed area. Recently passed my restricted 33.3bhp test so capacity/power output is not a problem! I've been doing a bit of research and it appears that the LML uses the same engine as the PX125, am i right about this?

I've decided that i want to spend a fair amount modifying the engine (I'll also be upgrading the brakes and suspension). Budget is about £1100-£1200 tops including labour, i'm not really all that mechanically minded! I've been doing a little looking on the PM tuning website and come up with a list of parts that i think i'll probably need:

https://www.pmtuning.co.uk/Merchant2/me ... 2PX1251992 - Race crank

https://www.pmtuning.co.uk/Merchant2/me ... 2PX1251992 - Exhaust

https://www.pmtuning.co.uk/Merchant2/me ... 2PX1251992 - Malossi 166cc kit

https://www.pmtuning.co.uk/Merchant2/me ... 2PX1251992 - Malossi 30mm Carb

https://www.pmtuning.co.uk/Merchant2/me ... 2PX1251992 - Malossi reed valve

This all comes to about £600ish. I'd also like to get some porting work done on the engine and get it all professionally set-up. Is there any other parts that i'd need? I'm thinking this'll give me enough speed to satisfy me! Could anyone give me a general idea of what kind of power (In BHP terms) that me scoot would kick out after them mods? Also a gear-up kit might be an idea, anyone know where sells them? I'd love to be able to cruise easily at 70.

Also one major worry is reliability. I'll be getting the setup done proffessionaly by PM tuning unless someone can recommend anyone better? How long would the scoot go between rebuild?

For the suspension i'm looking at the bitubo shocks and forks, can anyone recommend them or anything else?

Cheers for taking the time to read and i eagerly await your replys!

Thanks,

Quantum Sheep.

Why don't you ask it directly to PM if you're planning to have it done @ them?

Ahh i can see how i've sort of worded it wrong! Ooops! Really i'm looking at what mods are worthwhile doing and that're well thought of. I'm aiming to ring them by the end of a week with a list of parts i'd like, so i can see what kind of price i'll be looking at.

i'm no kind of expert but general consensus seems to be that the more aftermarket/performance mods you put on a scooter, the less time you're likely to spend riding it. the best way to guarantee reliability - especially if you intend to use your scooter as a daily rider - is to stick as close to stock as possible.

you may get better responses in the not-so-modern section so if things don't pick up here, i'll move this thread over there.

Thanks

Another quick question (May be a little silly) But would it be possible to fit the Malossi 210 kit to the 125? For reliability i'm not that bothered as long as i'm not doing top-end rebuilds every 1,000 miles.

I might have to give chiselspeed a ring, especially considering the location. Are their prices reasonable?

the lml should have a reed already fitted this needs some modification if a kit is fitted good spec is;
166 kit ,matched cases , simonini or sito+ plus pipe , standard carb flowed reed area this would keep everything nice and not to stressed will give a genuine 70mph and be nice lowdown anymore power and gearing comes into play as does the clutch and flywheel ,above set up will still give 100 miles per tank if riden properley and not thrashed big carbs and pipes move the power further up the rev range and need thrashing more to work fuel consumption will be poor as well ,13-14 hp with this spec but rideable ...if you need speed but a bike Razz emoticon
give sean a ring and say shocky from the scooterotica site sent you he,s a top bloke who unlike others wont bull sh1t you on what you need and let us know how you get on Nerd emoticon

That sean brady guy looks good. Might have to have a ring around. The more i look into it the more i'd like a ridiculous fire-breathing stupidly quick Vespa. Considering i have another bike i don't have too pay that much attention to reliability. I'm thinking of a setup that'll have about 20-25hp.

So do you reckon that this kind of power output would be achievable with say either the Malossi 166 or Polini 177, a high spec exhaust, race crank, uprated clutch and flywheel, bigger carb, some porting work and finally get an upgear kit?

yes.... but these will be race spec barrels with massive ports and welded cases piston life will be short, a clutch for 25 hp will cost £250 then there tyres, suspension and brakes could spend 1000,s
or these this http://www.sip-scootershop.com/Products/15045000/Rennzylinder+QUATTRINI+172+M1X.aspx

Try looking on the Eddie Bullet website they (are or at least ) the main importers for LML and sell engines complete.
However if you can get hold of a back copy of Scootering ( will try to find the issue number and then maybe you could pop down to Leeds and have a borrow, but basic de reitricting will increase the power to very near a PX 125 engine.

Is it only me or does anyone else think....

Fuck that, sell the LML use the money to get hold of a P2 and stick a 210 kit, port it and stick a bigger carb in it, bigger pipe and still have plenty of change to MATT BLACK THE FUCKER

or am i missing something

why mess with a 125 and spend a shit load of money when you can buy a 200 and spend far less for a crazy fast bike (if that's what you want / need)

BTW you could talk to Sir Harry of Barlow (Pro Porting) he's in Leicester and what he dont know about 2t's aint worth knowing IMHO. He did a fantastic job on my 200 (rebuild, porting etc etc etc) and is a very very nice man indeed. Loads of my mates ship engines up to him and no problems at all.

Have you replaced the fuel jet to a different size? It made a HUGE difference in my LML 150.

Just been reading a back copy of Scootering and in issue 266 they show you how to de restict an LML to get the power up virtually an old PX 125 engine. They are fitted with more filters than enough to meet emission standards, then in a later issue they compare exhausts with the best one given over 9 hp for around £250.
One thing to remember with fitting kits is they tend to lose reliability so if you use the scoot every day that is worth bearing in mind, plus the insurance company will need to know ( or should I say should!!)
