Hi all

on my 2nd 125 PX now, this ones 5 years old - both of them only ever started about 25% off the leccy start normally after a long run out, is this a starter, batterty or earth issue???

any ideas, is this a common problem?

regards B.T.

You might want to get yerself over to the 'not so modern' section its where all us geared bods hang out, drink, smoke fags and generally talk bollox.

but as for your starter motor.... could be you've got very little charge in your battery, could be that your starter button is knackered or has a loose connection, could be your motor is on the way out.

its a very well documented fault and most people get rid of the motor when its playing up and just kick the bike over. The first PX I had never had a working lecky (electricalatad for you lot over the pond) start so i ditched it and saved a few pounds in weight. The PX I have now has a working lecky start but was playing up for a while until i stripped the starter button and re soldered the connections, no problems since.

P.S where abouts in Leicester are you mate? me wifes from Ratby and i get to go to sunny Leicester every now and again to get very drunk with mates we have there.
Also did you know that Sir Harry of Barlow (Pro Porting) lives in Glenfield, so if you need any porting work / engine tuning done he's yer man.

I moved to a P200E because I wanted a kick, If it won't start with the electric
start then there are umpteen reasons why it won't work.

Battery is the main one though.

But if your electric start motor isn't in there or not working,
Then that too could be a problem too.

Could be poor charging of the battery from the bike.
Does the starter work properly with a freshly charged battery?

Testing the battery charging.

Get a multimeter and check the voltage of the battery. A good battery should read something like 12.6 volts or higher. If it gives a good reading the battery is fine. Lower it´s suspect or needs charged.

If the battery is low, take it of the bike, charge it, leave it standing for a while and check it again.

Once your sure the battery is good. Put it back in the bike. Start the bike. Connect the multimeter and run the revs up to about 3,500.

The meter should show about 14 volts going through the battery. Try it again with the lights on. If there isn´t a charge of about 14 volts going to the battery the regulator may be suspect. Check it and clean the connections. Test again.

Nah mate..we are just pulling your leg... Clown emoticon

It sounds like a battery issue or grounded out wire somewhere.
