Modern Vespa

so, before i installed 3.0, i did a backup of the phone.

went to install 3.0, neeed the new version of itunes. okay.

installed 3.0. after 3.0, no music would play, and all the apps were broken. they would launch then just close.

okay.

deleted everything off the phone and reloaded the music. went to resynch my apps- SURPRISE NOTHING IN ITUNES TO SYNCH.

so what do i have to do, go to itunes, look at my purchase history, and reload everything via the phone? i don't see an option to reload them to itunes and then synch with the phone.

why this happens each time i update the phones software is byond me. last time i did it like this, but i don't really want to sit here and reload 7 pages of apps via the phone this time.

bah.

When I updated, all my apps re-synced from iTunes. Even the ones I didn't want anymore.

Do you, by chance, sync from more than one machine?

no, just the one.

it's cool apple will just let you reload them via the phone for free, but it would be a lot easier if i could do it via the computer instead.

Supposed to work that way... not sure why it didn't. Did you ever get asked (by iTunes or the phone, can't remember) which user to sync to the first time you synced the new phone? I vaguely remember needing to indicate that...

EDIT: Sorry, forgetting you were just updating, not changing phones...

hmmm. no, i don't remember that. i just remember it whoosing through everything and popping out all bright + shiny 3.0.

it did the same thing last time as well, only then i didn't have quite so many apps.

worst part is that i almost had terminator salvation completed before it broke the app.

oh well, i'll just redo it the hard way. maybe apple can use me as an iphone breaker beta tester.

I have the first gen iphone, upgraded to 3.0, no problems whatsoever. All my apps and info still there. Had backed everything up, just in case, but not necessary.

Hmmm. Ever try a Restore in iTunes? It should ask you if you then want to restore your backed up settings.

Does your phone say "Backing up" when first connecting to iTunes daily?

I assume your apps aren't on your computer. If that's the case, you have to redownload each app using iTunes, then sync with your iPhone. It's that easy. As long as you store your apps on your computer this problem shouldn't happen again.

If you have any other problems, let me know, I'm an iPhone nerd.

I know it's not quite the same, but my iTouch updated like a champ.

Jess did a great job with the iPhone interface didn't he.

Apps from the phone do not sync back to iTunes. This is to reduce the amount of time it takes to sync. If the apps are not on iTunes you'll need to re-download them from there. You will not be charged again. Once they're in iTunes you can sync as normal.
