My wife has a 50cc, only 400 miles on it. She rode it for ten minutes, stopped at a friends for 30, then started it, rode it for two minutes, and it stalled out.
Half a tank of gas. I couldn't get it started. I noticed the clear plastic bubble was
missing from left side low. Any insight on how to get ir running again before I call the overpriced dealership?

Did she lay it down?

Choke on a modern Vespa? They use a fuel enrichener that is electric. It is not user operated.

Yes there is a choke on the lx50. Like you said it is not user operated but it is on when you start the engine until the idling speed returns to normal.Takes 5-10 minutes for the choke to disengage or you can disengage the choke by giving it gas. If you run the scoot with the choke on there will be engine hesitation and you can even stall the scoot.

Lets say the choke is stuck open. How do I fix it?

I think you will find there isn't a choke on a modern Vespa. A choke is a mechanical slide or butterfly that partially blocks the air inlet to allow more fuel and less air to be drawn.

The electric fuel enrichner operates by melting a pellet that somehow allows more fuel into the mixture. It is my understanding that it usually doesn't stay on too long.

To quote Silver Streak in a search:

"The Vespa 150 scoots, like most scooters, don't have a true "choke" in the traditional sense... that is, a butterfly valve that closes or "chokes" off the carburetor throat to enrich the mixture when starting. What is commonly referred to as the "electric choke" on the scooters is actually an enriching jet that is opened and closed by an electrically heated wax pellet that expands when heated. Nothing need be done to "set" the choke."

My point was that if the scooter was not given enough time to warm up ("choke" engaged) and she started riding the scoot then the excessively rich fuel mixture could be why the scoot stalled. You may have problem starting it if the engine was flooded.

Take a look at the 2005 workshop manual for the lx50 page eng-60 describes the automatic choke has being a piston that slides in and out of its housing.

Just this morning I was late and did not wait for the "choke" to disengage and the engine was hesitating I'm sure I could have easily stalled.
JMHO, I'm no expert.

Start off simple. Check to make sure the spark plug boot has not come off. If it was put on properly, it really shouldn't, but if was put on loosely, the scooter would run until it shakes loose.

I'm speaking from personal experience, here.

My LX50 did the same thing a few weeks after I bought it. It was the spark plug wire. Luckly, my dealer knew exactly what to tell me to do over the phone and had me back up and running in minutes.
