If I take the scoot off the centre stand, the stand only moves part way, so it sits at a diagonal, sufficient to scrape along the ground.

The stand is oiled and moves freely but for some reason it doesn't snap up as it should. If I prod the stand with my foot it goes all the way up - but this a PITA.

I know its a warranty thing but I'd rather fix it myself if possible - I don't want it stuck in the dealer again.

Any ideas?

Take a look at it and see if the spring is still connected. If it isn't that's the problem. If it's still there, see if it's connected properly or loose.

If it's not the spring, there may be something preventing it from going all the way up.

Get someone to help you by sitting on the bike while it's on the stand and you get down on the ground to watch what happens when they rock the bike forward off the stand. This will tell you if something is blocking it from going up.

It sounds to me like the main bolt is probably a bit rusty. It probably needs to be taken out, cleaned up with emery cloth and greased, not oiled. It's a pain in the ass but not uncommon on any bike that gets ridden is less than dry conditions.

Cheers Dave - that is probably it.

That said, the previous two I had were subjected to the same levels of neglect, and worked fine.

The 300 is a drama queen. Always something not quite right about it.

I believe there's actually two springs on the center stand, one inside the other. I could easily imagine that one of those being disconnected (the inner one, perhaps) would have the effect you describe.

But I'm guessing here...

I had the exactly same problem with my central stand on my 300. When i took it to my dealer for another problem, he gave it me back without this problem. I think he greased it.

Now the scoot is at the dealer's shop because a fuse (ecu) is often melting and the dealer don't find the cause. An inspector should have a look next week.
