Finally my j costa has been mounted! a bit more sound but not a lot of effect, maybe i have to wait and see after 600 kms.

Ive alse bought rain-x, and searched the mp3 forum, rain-x yes/no yes no

So whats up?

Is it save on a piaggio medium screen and my mulitech helmet? thats about800$ of equipment i dont want to waste.

At the shop they told me for plastic use the yellow bottle of rain-x and buy the black bottle for glass. At home i read the label and it says to ben carefull with plastic.

So yes or no?

rain-x
hi,
relative newbie so take that into account. this has been around various posts but i can't make the search function work today - blocked by admin.
however, many users recommended rain[coat] as a shield and visor coating to repel water that was better for plexiglass.
they also suggested plexus plastic cleaner (and never windex) - just an fyi. haven't tried either myself just yet.
i believer they can be found at webbikeworld.com
good luck.

Not sure about your specific equipment, but Fabbri says ok for their screen and HJC's web site says OK for their helmet visors. That said Rain Coat is a much better product for plastic and I recommend it. Found it praised here a year ago and never went back to Rain-x

Hey, let us know how the JCosta goes, mate. Having problems with mine...

You say 'no effect' so far? Weird. Mine had noticably: -

a) Higher revs.
b) Improved mid and high range pickup.
c) Worsened lag on acceleration from takeoff.

Mine is a 2007 IE - wonder if there are any engine changes for the LT?...

For Plastic
you want to use Rain Coat. I have it and it works very well when you're moving. I apply it to my windscreen and the faceshield.

Rain-X (in the yellow bottle) is for glass.... don't use it!! Use a plastic cleaner like All-Kleer, Plexus, Original Spirits, etc.

As far as the J Costa goes, give a few weeks to "settle in".

Matt, do you actually have any first hand experince with JCostas in an MP3 400?

That sounded confrontational! Didn't mean it that way I just would love to hear from someone where it actually did what they say it will.

I purchased Plexus because of what I read on other posts. As a protector and polish it is fine. As a cleaner it sucks. It tends to entomb the bug parts rather than remove them. I have a coat of Plexus on now and clean it with unmentionables then re-coat with Plexus.

Yes, Plexus is a polish. To remove crusty bugs soak a cloth in warm water and lay it on the affected area for a bit. The bugs will re-hydrate and come right off.

edited to add: That goes for general body work as well. Rather than scrubbing the bug guts off, soak them for a couple of minutes under a wet cloth before washing. Use paper towels to do the soaking if needed, but always use a soft cloth for washing and polishing.

My can as I look at it now reads,"PLASTIC CLEANER PROTECTANT & POLISH. They are lying about the cleaner part. This is not an all in one product as the manufacturer would like you to believe. I do recommend it for protecting though!

I've recommended Nikwax Visor Proof in a couple of recent threads, but I had not heard of Raincoat until I saw it mentioned here.  I think I'll give Raincoat a try this fall to see how the two compare.

Unless someone here has already used both and can comment...?

And when your visor gets a little old and you want it clear again? Use Pledge furniture polish. It is a long-time solution I read in "Life is a Road, the Soul is a Motorcycle," and on this forum. It works! I went on a long trip, was loaded with bugs, etc. I cleaned the visor with a mild soap and put on the Pledge I bought in a local store (for under $6) and it was like new again. And, as someone pointed out on the forum, the lemon Pledge smells nice.

I think it helps shed the rain as well. I got caught in a big rainstorm on Interstate 75 in TN and saw fine to pass some big trucks and do the last 7 miles to get back to the hotel.
